An effective biological control-integrated pest management (BC-IPM) system that maximizes biological control of Plutella xylostella (L.), Artogeia rapae (L.), and Trichoplusia ni Hubner) has been developed. In the first phase, chemical insecticides were replaced by the judicious use of the microbial insecticide Bacillus thuringiensis; there was an immediate reduction (>50%) in the number of tre...

this paper reports the occurrence of the hymenoterous parasitoid of the diamondback moth larvae in iran. one species of braconidae, cotesia plutellae (kurdjumov), was collected from larvae of plutella xylostella (l.) (lep.: plutellidae). this parasitoid, which belongs to the subfamily microgastrinae, is newly recorded from iran.

We report the occurrence of natural enemies of Plutella xylostela (L.) in organically farmed kale in Pernambuco, Brazil. Seven natural enemies were observed parasitizing or preying on larvae and pupae of P. xylostella--three parasitoids: Cotesia plutellae Kurdjumov (Hym.: Braconidae), Conura pseudofulvovariegata (Becker) (Hym.: Chalcididae) and Tetrastichus howardi (Olliff) (Hym.: Eulophidae), ...

Augmentative release of the endoparasitoid Cotesia plutellae (Kurdjumov) to control diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.), in cabbage, Brassica oleracea variety capitata (L.), would be expensive for growers if done continually during a growing season. A method for establishing released parasitoids would be very beneficial in the control of this pest. One method under consideration is to us...

A range of crops have been transformed with delta-endotoxin genes from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) to produce transgenic plants with high levels of resistance to lepidopteran pests. Parasitoids are important natural enemies of lepidopteran larvae and the effects of Bt plants on these non-target insects have to be investigated to avoid unnecessary disruption of biological control. This study inv...

Laboratory, greenhouse and field studies were conducted on Oomyzus sokolowskii Kurdjumov, a parasite of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.), to judge its suitability for introduction in the field to control the plutellid. Oomyzus sokolowskii preferred the third and fourth instar diamondback moth larvae over fresh pupae for parasitization. It is thus a larval parasite. Within the range of...
