BACKGROUND Stenosis in the area of the cricotracheal segment is still a challenging problem to be dealt with. Post-intubational cases mark an increase in recent years due to the advances in intensive care, thoracic surgery and neurosurgery departments. CASE REPORT This paper describes a case report of a patient with severe subglottic stenosis (grade III according to the Cotton-Myer scale), in...

OBJECTIVES We examined a retrospective case series to evaluate the utility of two-stage laryngotracheal reconstruction (LTR) in the management of subglottic stenosis (SGS) in adults. Operative correction of SGS with LTR has been practiced successfully in the pediatric population. However, in the adult population, cricotracheal resection has been a more common alternative. METHODS We reviewed ...

Background. Retrograde intubation is useful for obtaining endotracheal access when direct laryngoscopy proves difficult. The technique is a practical option in the "cannot intubate / can ventilate" scenario. However, it is equally useful as an elective technique in awake patients with anticipated difficult airways. Many practitioners report difficulty successfully advancing the endotracheal tub...

A case of laryngotracheal trauma (LTT) was brought to hospital in emergency. After securing airway, neck was explored and total laryngotracheal separation together with crushed anterior and posterior tracheal walls was found. Cricotracheal anastomosis and anterior tracheal wall was repaired with perichondrium lined rib graft. Recovery was good, required dilatation once without any serious posto...

BACKGROUND Reconstruction after partial cricotracheal resection is technically demanding and is seldom reported in literature. The purpose of this study was to report a technique of reconstruction of such a defect with a radial forearm flap supported by a titanium mesh. METHODS A 75-year-old man who was diagnosed with a case of papillary carcinoma thyroid, underwent excision of the tumor with...

We report the survival of an extremely rare case of complete cricotracheal transection following incisional trauma with knife. The clinical record underlines the importance of prompt airway management and immediate neck exploration in such cases. To the authors knowledge, such a case has not been reported previously in the literature.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Techniques available for reconstruction of the cricotracheal region in adults are currently suboptimal. We sought to 1) understand the anatomic basis for the thyroid ala perichondrial flap, 2) describe the technique of harvesting and intraluminal placement, and 3) learn the limitations of defects for which it can be used. STUDY DESIGN Cadaveric anatomical study. METHOD...
