Borzani and Vairo (1959) reported that grampositive and gram-negative microorganisms are fundamentally different with respect to crystal violet adsorption. They claimed that the binding of crystal violet by gram-positive cells followed the Freundlich and the Langmuir adsorption laws; whereas the binding of crystal violet by gram-negative cells did not follow any known adsorption law. The presen...

Crystal violet exhibited characteristics of an uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation, i.e. it released respiratory control, hindered ATP synthesis, enhanced ATPase activity, and produced swelling of isolated rat liver mitochondria. Maximal stimulation of respiration, ATPase activity, and swelling was observed at a concentration of 40 microM. The inhibition of State 3 respiration by oligomycin ...

The heterogeneous photo-Fenton degradation of crystal violet under visible light has been investigated usingcopper modified iron oxide. The photocatalyst has been prepared by coprecipitation method. The rate ofphotocatalyic degradation of dye was monitored spectrophotometrically. It has been observed thatphotocatalytic degradation follows pseudo first order kinetics. The effect of various param...

Biofilms are recognised as an important contributor to bacterial resistance towards traditional antimicrobial treatments. Assessment of biofilm formation currently relies on a 96 well microtitre plate assay, which usually involves the colourimetric detection of stain (typically crystal violet) removed from previously stained biofilm. The amount of crystal violet released is then used as a quant...

INTRODUCTION Crystal violet was commonly used for the treatment of oral and vaginal candidiasis or for sterilization during operations up to the 1960s. Because crystal violet is potentially toxic to mucosal membranes, it has been replaced with other disinfectants, and crystal violet is rarely used. We report a case of chemical cystitis due to intravesical instillation of crystal violet dye. C...

Copper (I) oxide microparticles with the morphology of cubic and hollow sphere were synthesized with the assistance of surfactant as the shape controller. Both particles were then subjected to study the catalytic activity and observed the results of shape effects of catalysts on rate of catalytic reaction. The decolorizing reaction of crystal violet and sodium hydroxide was chosen and measured ...

Adsorption techniques are widely used to remove the pollutants from waters, especially those that are not easily biodegradable. The removal of crystal violet dye (CVD) from water was studied by using Amberlyst 15, a cation-exchange resin (CER), along with Ferrous (Fe 2+ ) and H2O2 . In this study the main factors that can influence the degradation of crystal violet dye are molar ratio of [(H2O2...

The formula for crystal violet given in Conn's book (1940) implies that quantitative measurement of the dye adsorbed by bacterial cells should be possible by a suitable micro-Kjeldahl procedure. At the present time there is no satisfactory method for estimating the degree of gram positivity although the need for such a procedure is recognized and is discussed by Bartholomew and Mittwer (1952). ...

Sodium azide-crystal violet-agar and a modified blood-azide (MBA)-agar were used to isolate Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae from swine tissues. There was no significant difference in the number of isolations. However, 78% of the isolants from modified blood-azide medium required only 24 hr of incubation, whereas all of the isolants obtained on sodium azide-crystal violet medium required 48 hr.

The removal of crystal violet from aqueous solution by NiFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles treated with sodium dodecyl sulfate was investigated. The modified magnetic nanoparticles were prepared by chemical reaction of a mixture of Ni+2 and Fe+3 ions mixture in aqueous solution at the presence of ammonia and then sodium dodecyl sulfate was utilized as an ionic surfactant to modified the obtained mag...
