Most of the present-day down-conversion white light-emitting devices (WLEDs) utilize rare-earth elements, which are expensive and facing the problem of shortage in supply. WLEDs based on the combination of orange and blue emitting copper nanoclusters are introduced, which are easy to produce and low in cost. Orange emitting Cu nanoclusters (NCs) are synthesized using glutathione as both the red...

Copper nanoclusters have recently emerged as promising luminophores, and their AIE properties promoted a plenty of potential applications. This review summarizes the recent research progress on design ligands, ways how to induce aggregation Cu nanoclusters. Special emphasis is put onthe current understanding emission mechanisms experiencing AIE. (Aggregate. 2021;2:e112)

Wet chemical reduction of metal ions, a common strategy for synthesizing metal nanoparticles, strongly depends on the electric potential of the metal, and its applications to late transition metal clusters have been limited to special cases. Here, we describe copper nanoclusters grown by synchrotron radiolysis in concert with wet chemistry. The local structure of copper aggregates grown by redu...

Photocatalytic degradation of organic compounds requires photoexcited holes with strong oxidative power in the valence band (VB) of semiconductors. Although numerous types of doped semiconductors, such as nitrogen-doped TiO2, have been studied as visible-light-sensitive photocatalysts, the quantum yields of these materials were very low because of the limited oxidation power of holes in the nit...

We report a detailed density functional theory (DFT) study in conjunction with extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) experiments on the geometrical and local electronic properties of Cu adatoms and Cu(ii) ions in presence of water molecules and of CuO nanoclusters on the CeO2(110) surface. Our study of (CuO)n(=1,2&4) clusters on CeO2(110) shows that based on the Cu-O environment, the...

Novel luminescent silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) were synthesized utilizing DNA as templates by a simple, rapid and one-pot procedure. Luminescence studies indicated that these DNA-AgNCs exhibited strong emission with peak maximum at 624 nm. The fluorescence of the DNA-AgNCs was found to be quenched by Cu(2+) enabling its detection with high sensitivity and selectivity.

An anti-galvanic replacement reaction (AGRR) of copper(II) ions reduced by ultra-small ssDNA-templated silver nanoclusters forming Ag-Cu alloy nanoparticles was observed. The reaction is against the classic galvanic theory and was monitored sensitively by the light-scattering technique.

Highly luminescent and stable Cu nanoclusters (NCs) have been prepared, displaying an intriguing aggregation-induced emission (AIE) feature. The attractive AIE feature allowed the CuNCs to serve as pH stimuli-responsive functional materials. Additionally, we explored the utility of CuNCs for biosensing and catalysis applications.

A facile and one-pot approach to the preparation of gold (Au) and copper (Cu) bimetallic nanoclusters (NCs) is unveiled. AuCu NCs reveal features of orange photoluminescence (PL), reversible pH-dependent PL properties, and efficient catalytic activity for degradation of methylene blue (MB).
