A line-focus ultrasonic SH-wave probe is developed for possible application to TOFD method. The probe is composed of a quarteror half-cylindrical wedge and a piezoelectric transducer adhered to the cylindrical surface of the wedge. An SH-wave pulse with cylindrical wave front is generated by the transducer, transmitted to the wedge, and focused on a line at the bottom surface of the wedge. Henc...

Different levels of stress non-uniformity usually occur in test specimens of different dimensions and aspect ratios. The effect of the choice of dimensions on the level of stress nonuniformity for hollow cylindrical specimens was studied using a linear elastic analysis during the development of a new hollow cylinder apparatus. Earlier researchers have assumed slightly different variations in th...

In recent years application of CFRP sheets in the strengthening of the concrete circular column has increased numerously. Knowing the exact behavior of concrete cylindrical columns confined with CFRP is of the first order of importance. ISIS Code of Canada has given relations for strength increase of circular columns confined with CFRP sheets, these relations are defined for a specified range o...

A comparison between reported analytical results with experimental data of the magnetic flux density on cylindrical tin inclusions of elliptical cross-section embedded in a copper matrix under external thermal excitation is presented. By changing the aspect ratios b/a designated by e of the elliptical inclusions, a wide range of real situation such as slender inclusions can be simulated. The as...

Because many osteoporotic fractures occur during a fall, understanding the effect of off-axis loads on initiation and propagation of microdamage in trabecular bone should provide further insight into the biomechanics of age-related fractures. Fourteen on-axis cylindrical specimens were prepared from 12 bovine tibiae. Fluorescent stains were used to label the microdamage due to a sequence of com...

The continuum theory of sintering is used for the analysis of the stability of forging of a cylindrical powder specimen. The constitutive properties of the powder material are assumed to follow a power-law creep relationship. Temperature-coupled linear non-uniform stability analyses are carried out. Stability maps are obtained for forging of copper powder components.
