BACKGROUND Cystectomy delay >90 days after a diagnosis of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) adversely affects pathologic stage and survival outcomes in patients who undergo primary surgery. After neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), the impact of the timing of cystectomy delivery on these outcomes is uncertain. Poor communication between urologic and medical oncologists can result in cystectomy ...

The objective was to introduce a new system for transvaginal removal of ovarian cyst and to evaluate its feasibility. With a new transvaginal system, ultrasound-assisted culdotomy, and laparoscopy supported cystectomy if vaginal procedure failed. The authors conducted a retrospective review in which 35 cases using new vaginal ovarian cystectomy were compared with 40 cases of laparoscopic cystec...

PURPOSE In 76% of radical cystectomy patients there is discrepancy between the initial stage at transurethral resection and the final pathological stage of the cystectomy specimen. More specifically in contemporary series the absence of tumor at radical cystectomy specimens (stage pT0) is estimated at 5-25%. Our aim was to determine which factors contributed to the absence of tumor in our serie...

BACKGROUND Evidence-based guidelines recommend radical cystectomy for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. However, many patients receive alternate therapies, such as chemotherapy or radiation. We examined factors that are associated with the use of radical cystectomy for invasive bladder cancer and compared the survival outcomes of patients with invasive bladder cancer by the treatmen...

INTRODUCTION Few studies have adequately addressed the indications, efficacy, and quality-of-life for cystectomy performed for non-malignant bladder conditions. Patients with debilitating non-malignant bladder conditions who have failed all previous conservative therapies may undergo various forms of cystectomy, including partial, simple or radical cystectomy. We provide a review of the current...

BACKGROUND To investigate the efficacy of initial biopsy or transurethral resection of bladder tumor for detecting histological variants on radical cystectomy and to assess the prognostic significance of variant histology on urothelial carcinoma outcomes after radical cystectomy. METHODS Clinical and histopathological characteristics of 147 patients with variant histology who underwent radica...

BACKGROUND Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication after surgery and increases costs, morbidity, and mortality of hospitalized patients. While radical cystectomy associates significantly with an increased risk of serious complications, including AKI, risk factors of AKI after radical cystectomy has not been reported. This study was performed to determine the incidence and independent...

Background: Centralization of cystectomy treatment for bladder cancer, while associated with improved outcomes, may impose geographic barriers to care. However, whether this effect may be counterbalanced by an increased number of high volume centers has not previously been explored. Objective: To characterize changes in geographic disparities to high volume cystectomy centers over time. Methods...

Exstrophy of the urinary bladder is an uncommon congenital anormaly for wich cystectomy was recommended because of a high risk of developing carcinoma. We report a patient treated by cystectomy and ileal loop diversion, who, 34 years later, developed carcinoma of the ileal loop. It is the third report of a tumor developing in a ileal conduit constructed after cystectomy for bladder exstrophy.
