Systemic sclerosis is a generalized disorder of connective tissue, in which the pattern of disease extent, progression and outcome is heterogenous. To determine clinical features, disease extent and progression, we studied our patients in two phases of disease early (the first 3 years) and late phases (after 6 years of disease). 19 patients had diffuse cutaneous and 34 patients had limited cuta...
BACKGROUND Photosensitivity has been reported in patients who were treated with vandetanib (ZD6474), an inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor, and the RET (rearranged during transfection) kinases. OBSERVATIONS We describe the occurrence of cutaneous hyperpigmentation after photosensitivity in 2 patients who were treated with vandetanib. The...
Iris melanoma is a primary intraocular tumor with a high potential risc for metastasis, characterized by the presence of a single or a multiple hyperpigmentation focal areas, or diffuse hyperpigmentation of the anterior epithelium of the iris. This hyperpigmentation is due to an abnormal growth and proliferation of melanocytes. However, not any hyperpigmentation should be handled as a melanom, ...
A 75-year-old woman with a history of hydroxychloroquinetreated cutaneous lupus erythematosus presented with a bilateral sharply demarcated macular hyperpigmentation on both forearms (Fig. 1) and a partial melanonychia of the right thumb nail. This pigmentation disorder developed gradually over a 6-month period. No retinal pigmentation and no systemic disorder were revealed. Dermoscopy of the n...
Laugier-Hunziker syndrome is a rare benign condition characterized by diffuse oral hyperpigmentation associated with pigmentation of the nails. The syndrome must be included in the differential diagnosis of diffuse oral pigmentation to exclude other conditions with systemic implications. We describe a 43-year-old white woman with the clinical and histological features of Laugier-Hunziker syndro...
Sir, Tegafur, a fluorinated pyrimidine analogue of 5Fluorouracil (5-FU), is metabolized in vivo with biotransformation to 5-FU (1). It is effective in the treatment of gastrointestinal carcinoma, with the advantages of low myelosuppression and lack of immunosuppression. The cutaneous adverse effects of Tegafur include stomatitis, dry skin, disseminated rash, alopecia, photosensitivity, palmopla...
Tegafur is a prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) with a similar spectrum of antitumor activity. It is used in the treatment of advanced gastrointestinal neoplasms. Over 5-FU, tegafur has the advantage of oral administration and less hematologic toxicity. Gastrointestinal toxicity is its main dose-limiting factor. The cutaneous adverse effects of tegafur include mucositis, photosensitivity, diffuse...
