Real-time PCR has been used to detect the occurrence of pathogenic fungi (Diplodia pinea, Biscogniauxia mediterranea, B. nummularia) from asymptomatic samples of pine oak and beech respectively. The initial colonization by those armful fungal parasites on the host trees has been detected more efficiently than with isolation on agar plates.

Thiabendazole and benomyl were the most effective fungicides for the control of Diplodia natalensis Pole Evans stem-end rot, a major decay of early degreened fruit. This decay was also significantly reduced by imazalil and guazatine, but the level of control was not as consistent as that obtained with thiabendazole or benomyl. Control of Dip lodia stem-end rot was not obtained with DF-1OO or po...

Species in the Botryosphaeriaceae are well known as pathogens and saprobes of woody hosts, but little is known about the species that occur in Iran. In a recent survey of this family in Iran two fungi with diplodia-like anamorphs were isolated from various tree hosts. These two fungi were fully characterised in terms of morphology of the anamorphs in culture, and sequences of the ITS1/ITS2 regi...

The molecular basis of the systemic induced resistance (SIR) phenotype known to occur in Austrian pine (Pinus nigra J.F. Arnold) in response to the tip blight and canker pathogen Diplodia pinea (Desm.) remains unclear. Specialized metabolites such as phenolics are considered to be an important component of plant defense, including SIR, but the antimicrobial activity of many of these putative de...
