Data compression is a method of improving the efficiency of transmission and storage of images. Dithering, as a method of data compression, can be used to convert an 8-bit gray level image into a 1-bit / binary image. Undithering is the process of reconstruction of gray image from binary image obtained from dithering of gray image. In the present paper, I propose a method of undithering using l...

Dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) has become a standard approach for reducing power when performance requirements vary. Voltage dithering was proposed to provide near-optimum DVS power savings with much less overhead [1]. Voltage dithering refers to operating for different fractions of time at two discrete voltage and frequency pairs to achieve an intermediate average frequency. Previous implementa...

M. C. Ross, L. Hendrickson, T. Himel, E. Miller Stanford Linear Accelerator Center Stanford, California 94309 Abstract A data acquisition method has been developed at the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) that provides accurate beam parameter information using sub-tolerance xcitation and synchronized detection. This is being applied to several SLC sub-systems to provide high speed feedback on beam par...

This work portrays a scheme to simultaneously 3D-dither two (or more) 2D gray-level images in IR, in orthogonal orthographic views, into one 3D model embedded in a cube, so that the different input images are seen from the different faces of the cube. From one axis-parallel orthographic view of the cube model, the first image is seen, and from a second, orthogonal, orthographic view, the second...

We study error statistics of lattice quantization with and without vector dithering. As in the scalar case, we distinguish between subtractive and nonsubtractive dithering. We derive general expressions for appropriate error statistics in both cases. In subtractive dithering , we can achieve statistical independence of the error vector from the input vector by appropriate choice of the dither v...

The luminosity optimization at the SLC has been limited by the precision with which one can measure the micron size beams at the Interaction Point. Ten independent tuning parameters must be adjusted. An automated application has been used to scan each parameter over a significant range and set the minimum beam size as measured with a beambeam deflection scan. Measurement errors limited the accu...

This paper presents phase noise behaviour and design aspects of PLL based frequency synthesizers with ∆Σ dithering for cognitive multi-radio mobile terminals. Principal features of PLL based frequency synthesizers and 1-bit ∆Σ dithering are presented and simulated. Moreover, frequency synthesizer requirements for main standards in the frequency band 800 MHz to 6 GHz are investigated as well.

Our recent study showed that the Bayer-dithering technique could substantially improve 3D measurement quality for the binary defocusing method. Yet, the dithering technique was developed to optimize the appearance or intensity representation, rather than the phase, of an image. This paper presents a framework to optimize the Bayer-dithering technique in phase domain by iteratively mutating the ...

The resolution of ADCs (Analog-to-Digital Converters) can be improved by dithering, i.e. by intentionally injecting white noise into the analog signal. This work describes the theory behind dithering, how to optimize the magnitude of the noise and also a design that illustrates how dithering can be implemented to increase the resolution of a microcontroller’s ADC. In order to demonstrate the po...

We introduce a new class of dithering methods called N-candidate methods. The main idea is that the output color is randomly chosen among several candidate colors so that the estimated color average would be preserved. The dithering process is pixelwise without any interaction with the neighboring pixels. The N-candidate methods are thus location invariant, which has two benefits: (1) the algor...
