V a r i o u s imaging methods have been used for the preoperative localization of parathyroid tumors in patients with hyperparathyroidism. Among the noninvasive methods, several scintigraphic techniques have been employed, including variations on the dual-isotope 2°ITI/99mTC subtraction techniques (1-3). Modification of this technique, using 123I instead of [99mTC] pertechnetate, has also been ...

Nuclear imaging of the thyroid and parathyroid glands has evolved from early radionuclide rectilinear thyroid scanning to the recently developed dual isotope subtraction technique for detecting parathyroid lesions. At the same time, x-ray fluorescent scanning, ultrasound, x-ray computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging have improved identification of these endocrine organs. The approp...

Introduction: It is a common protocol to use 201Tl for the rest and 99mTc for the stress cardiac SPECT imaging. Theoretically, both types of imaging may be performed simultaneously using different energy windows for each radionuclide. However, a potential limitation is the cross-contamination of scattered photons from 99mTc and collimator X-rays into the 201Tl energy window. We used a middle en...

injection of NIS-hiPSCs guided by 3-dimensional NOGA mapping was performed. Dual-isotope single photon emission computed tomographic/computed tomographic imaging was applied with the use of I to follow donor cell survival and distribution and with the use of TC-tetrofosmin for perfusion imaging. In vitro, iodide uptake in NIS-hiPSCs was increased 100-fold above that of nontransgenic controls. I...

A technique is described involving simultaneous, dual-isotope SPECT imaging. Using 123I and 201TI, a patient study is presented, demonstrating the clinical utility of this technique in the detection and characterization of parathyroid pathology. The use of this technique in other clinical situations is discussed.

In nuclear medicine, simultaneous dual-isotope imaging is used to determine the distribution of two radiotracers from a single acquisition and for emission/transmission (E/T) imaging in SPECT. However, no general solution to the cross–talk problem caused by scattered and unscattered photons has been found yet and accurate quantification cannot be performed. We describe a general method of spect...
