The transition from order to chaos in atomic nuclei has been studied analytically and numerically using a quadrupole–quadrupole residual interaction. This interaction leads to chaotic behaviour, but the critical energy E C ≃ 12.6 MeV, corresponding to the onset of chaos, is higher than that of the experimental one.

Some complex measures based on recurrence plots give evidence about hyperchaos-chaos transitions in coupled nonlinear systems [E. G. Souza et al., "Using recurrences to characterize the hyperchaos-chaos transition," Phys. Rev. E 78, 066206 (2008)]. In this paper, these measures are combined with a significance test based on twin surrogates to identify such a transition in a fourth-order Lorenz-...

The new phenomenon of semiquantum chaos is analyzed in a classically regular double-well oscillator model. Here it arises from a doubling of the number of effectively classical degrees of freedom, which are nonlinearly coupled in a Gaussian variational approximation (TDHF) to full quantum mechanics. The resulting first-order nondissipative autonomous flow system shows energy dependent transitio...

The equations describing the motion of a feedback controlled robot are known to be non-linear. Several non-linear equations are known to exhibit chaos for certain ranges of parameters. I n this paper, we explore the possibility of chaos in a system of differential equations which model a feedback controlled two link robot with rotary(R) joints. We examine a simple proportional and derivative co...

Chaos router is a nonminimal adaptive packet router that is both deadlock free and probabilistically livelock free [Kon91]. Unlike its predecessors [Nga89], the Chaos router uses randomization to provide an e cient way to avoid livelock [KS90]. The Chaos router has been compared in software simulation studies to the state-of-the-art oblivious routers (i.e. dimension order routers) on the hyperc...

Chaos means that strategies go wildly astray. It is often associated with missed deadlines, understaffing, runaway costs, and similar situations generally considered negative. Under these circumstances “Chaos” describes a situation where the goals of a strategy are unachievable and therefore the outcomes become random, unpredictable and often undesirable. This is exemplified in a recent E-mail ...

We derive semiclassical periodic orbit expansions for a correlation function of the Wigner time delay. We consider the Fourier transform of the two-point correlation function, the form factorK(τ, x, y,M), that depends on the number of open channelsM , a non-symmetry breaking parameter x, and a symmetry breaking parameter y. Several terms in the Taylor expansion about τ = 0, which depend on all ...

We consider quantum systems with a chaotic classical limit that depend on an external parameter, and study correlations between the spectra at different parameter values. In particular, we consider the parametric spectral form factor K(τ, x) which depends on a scaled parameter difference x. For parameter variations that do not change the symmetry of the system we show by using semiclassical per...

Chaos is a general phenomenon in nonlinear dynamical systems. Accelerators { storage rings in particular { in which particles are stored for 10 revolutions constitute a particularly intricate nonlinear dynamical system. (In comparison, the earth has revolved around the sun for only 10 turns.) Storage rings therefore provide an ideal testing ground for chaos physics. In fact, it is the chaos phe...
