Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) has long served as a model organism for scientific research, as well as a workhorse for biotechnology. Here we present the most current genome annotation of E. coli BL21(DE3) based on the transcriptome structure of the strain that was determined for the first time. The genome was annotated using multiple automated pipelines and compared to the current genome annotatio...

When producing recombinant proteins, the use of Escherichia coli strain BL21(DE3) in combination with the T7-based pET-expression system is often the method of choice. In a recent study we introduced a mechanistic model describing the correlation of the specific glucose uptake rate (qs,glu) and the corresponding maximum specific lactose uptake rate (qs,lac, max) for a pET-based E. coli BL21(DE3)...

Background Tuberculosis remains the leading cause of death in the world, especially wherever poverty, malnutrition and poor housing prevail. Mycobacterium tuberculosis Beijing strain is the most common strain that causes tuberculosis in Indonesia. The wide spread of tuberculosis has been further aggravated by HIV-AIDS and drug resistance. Unfortunately, Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) as the curr...

The genomes of many strains of Escherichia coli have been sequenced, as this organism is a classic model bacterium. Here, we report the genome sequence of Escherichia coli DH5α, which is resistant to a T4 bacteriophage (CCTCC AB 2015375), while its other homologous E. coli strains, such as E. coli BL21, DH10B, and MG1655, are not resistant to phage invasions. Thus, understanding of the genome o...

The products of various strains of Escherichia coli (BL21, DH5alpha, HB101 and XL Blue) were investigated for antimycotic properties using pathogenic isolates of Aspergillus. Co-culture experiments revealed that E. coli strains exhibited variable activity against Aspergillus fumigatus. The lysates prepared from DH5alpha, HB101 and XL Blue strains of E. coli showed inhibitory activity against A....

We describe a method for production of recombinant human hemoglobin by Escherichia coli grown in a bioreactor. E. coli BL21(DE3) transformed with a plasmid containing hemoglobin genes and Plesiomonas shigelloides heme transport genes reached a cell dry weight of 83.64 g/liter and produced 11.92 g/liter of hemoglobin in clarified lysates.

objectives: in present study we aimed to clone the lux i gene encoding n-acyl-homoserine synthase detected in biofilm forming clinical isolates of acinetobacter baumannii and study its expression in escherichia coli transformants. materials and methods: four a. baumannii hospital strains which demonstrated strong biofilm activity were selected in this investigation. the presence of lux i gene w...

A cryopreservation condition for D-amino acid oxidase (DAAO)-overexpressing Escherichia coli (E. coli BL21(DE3)/pET-DAAO) was established. Ten percent was the optimum concentration of glycerol as a cryoprotectant, and its diffusion into stationary phase cells was superior to that into log cells. The results also showed that rather than fast cooling, a slow cooling method was appropriate to our ...

Phage contamination has become a major concern for industrial bacteria, such as Escherichia coli BL21(DE3), used in fermentation processes. Herein, we report CRISPR/Cas9 defense system-based strategy to precisely prey and degrade phage DNA decontaminate target phages. First, isolated novel from substrates with BL21(DE3) the host, named TR1. It showed typical podovirus morphology head diameter o...
