Rheological object, such as various food products and biological tissues, has both elastic and plastic properties. Modeling of rheological object has not been studied frequently comparing with the modeling of elastic one. Our previously developed FE models of rheological objects were based on triangular or tetrahedra finite elements. In this paper, the FE model of rheological object formulated ...

We evaluated the inducibility of nitrate-dependent Fe(II)-EDTA oxidation (NDFO) in non-growth, chloramphenicol-amended, resting-cell suspensions of Dechloromonas sp. strain UWNR4 and Acidovorax sp. strain 2AN. Cells previously incubated with Fe(II)-EDTA oxidized ca. 6-fold more Fe(II)-EDTA than cells previously incubated with Fe(III)-EDTA. This is the first report of induction of NDFO by Fe(II).

Finite element (FE) modeling and multibody dynamics have traditionally been applied separately to the domains of tissue mechanics and musculoskeletal movements, respectively. Simultaneous simulation of both domains is needed when interactions between tissue and movement are of interest, but this has remained largely impractical due to the high computational cost. Here we present a method for th...

Introduction: Bulk ureilites have near-chondritic abundances of trace siderophile elements (Fig. 1), which is difficult to reconcile with any igneous model for their silicates [1]. It is particularly problematic [2-4] for the smelting model in which silicate mg (molar Mg/[Mg+Fe]) is controlled by pressure-dependent carbon redox reactions [5-7]. The smelting reaction (FeO+C→Fe+CO) predicts a cor...

T his article challenges Fixed Effects (FE) modeling as the ‘default’ for time-series-crosssectional and panel data. Understanding different within and between effects is crucial when choosing modeling strategies. The downside of Random Effects (RE) modeling— correlated lower-level covariates and higher-level residuals—is omitted-variable bias, solvable with Mundlak’s (1978a) formulation. Conse...

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to propose finite element (FE) modeling methods for predicting stress distributions on teeth and mandible under chewing action. MATERIALS AND METHODS For FE model generation, CT images of skull were translated into 3D FE models, and static analysis was performed considering linear material behaviors and nonlinear geometrical effect. To find out proper bou...

In photoionized gases with cosmic abundances, dielectronic recombination (DR) proceeds primarily via nlj → nl ′ j ′ core excitations (∆n = 0 DR). We have measured the resonance strengths and energies for Fe XVIII to Fe XVII and Fe XIX to Fe XVIII ∆n = 0 DR. Using our measurements, we have calculated the Fe XVIII and Fe XIX ∆n = 0 DR rate coefficients. Significant discrepancies exist between our...

The reductive dissolution of Fe-oxide driven by organic matter oxidation is the primary mechanism accepted for As mobilization in several alluvial aquifers. These processes are often mediated by microorganisms that require a minimum Gibbs energy available to conduct the reaction in order to sustain their life functions. Implementing this threshold energy in reactive transport modeling is rarely...

Aims High resolution computed tomography (CT) image based finite element (FE) models have been widely applied to assess the mechanical properties of human trabecular bone. However, the prohibitive computational cost of voxel-based FE models limits its clinical applications, especially in whole bone strength prediction by nonlinear FE analysis. There is a strong need for an alternative modeling ...
