There are several reports about the optimization of protease production, but only few have optimized the production of organic solvent tolerant keratinolytic proteases that show remarkable exploitation in the development of the non-polluting processes in biotechnological industries. The present study was carried with aim to optimize the production of a thermostable organic solvent tolerant kera...

Meiothermus ruber H328 was isolated from Arima Hot Springs, Kobe, Japan, as a moderate thermophile. It has a strong ability to degrade intact chicken feathers. The enzymatic mechanism of the strain for feather degradation is unclear. The draft genome suggests potent enzyme candidates for degradation of keratin, a hard-to-degrade protein found in feathers.

Feathers are byproduct waste of poultry processing plant and produced in large amount. A small percentage of feather waste is steamed, chemically treated, ground, to form feather meal a dietary protein supplement for animals. Alternatively, keratin can be biodegraded by some Keratinolytic bacteria and in this study Keratinase producing bacteria and their Keratinolytic enzyme production was inve...

Feathers are the most prevalent agricultural waste generated by chicken farms, polluting environment and wasting protein resources as a result of accumulation large amounts feathers. Therefore, keratinase-producing microorganisms represent promising potential technique for degradation feather waste. Streptomyces netropsis A-ICA Bacillus subtilis ALICA, previously isolated from rhizosphere deser...

Feather keratin is highly resistant to degradation, but some keratinase producing microorganisms can easily degrade these insoluble keratins. These keratinase producing species have an important application in removal of poultry waste and recycled into valuable byproduct. Bacillus sp was screened from soil samples of slaughterhouse and poultry farm area using azokeratin medium. Highest keratina...

The present study was aimed at isolating a potential keratinase producing bacteria from chicken feathers collected from poultry waste sites in and around Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and optimising the parameters for the enzyme production. The strain was identified as Bacillus licheniformis KMBVP based on 16srRNA gene sequencing. The strain showed high keratinolytic activity when cultured in feather...

The aim of this study was to characterize keratinolytic bacteria isolated from feather waste. Four isolates were selected after growth on solid medium with feather meal as sole carbon and nitrogen source and screened for proteolytic activity on milk agar plates. Three isolates were Gram-negative (belonged to the genera Burkholderia, Chryseobacterium and Pseudomonas) and one was Gram-positive (M...

An efficient keratinolytic strain of Stenorophomonas maltophilia KB13 was isolated from feather disposal site of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, India. The strain could metabolize 10 g/l chicken feathers as sole source of carbon and nitrogen. Soluble protein, amino acid, and cysteine content were found to be maximum (690.6 ± 8.7, 688.9 ± 9.12 and 21 ± 0.36 µg/ml, respectively) at late logarithmic phase...

Both stocking rate and housing systems are main factors influencing the occurrence of feather pecking in laying hens raised in conventional cage system. This study examines the effects of different type of cage and stock density on feather pecking behaviour in hens. Total of 216 Hisex Brown hens at 16 weeks of age were randomly selected and put into 2 types of battery cages: conventional cages ...
