Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) is a non-neoplastic condition of the jaws that is not associated with inflammation of the pulp or periodontal tissue. This article reports on three cases that were diagnosed as FCOD, demonstrating the importance of both clinical and radiographic diagnosis and the clinical management of these lesions.
There are three types of osseous dysplasia: periapical cemental dysplasia (PCD), focal cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCD) and florid osseous dysplasia (FOD). While PCD is often observed in mandibular anterior teeth, FCD mainly affects mandibular posterior teeth. FOD, on the other hand, commonly involves both jaws. FOD is a type of sclerosing disease that is characterised by intense opaque masses a...
Clinical, radiographic, and histological findings of florid cemento-osseous dysplasia: a case report
Cemento-osseous dysplasias are a group of disorders known to originate from periodontal ligament tissue and involve, essentially, the same pathological process. They are usually classified into three main groups: periapical, florid, and focal cemental dysplasias depending on their extent and radiographic appearances. Radiographically, florid cementoosseous dysplasia (FCOD) appears as dense, lob...
In this study, we formulate a new proposal that complements previous classifications in order to assist dental practitioners in performing a differential diagnosis based on patients' radiographs. We used general search engines and specialized databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, PubMed Central, MedLine Plus, Science Direct, Scopus, and well-recognized textbooks to find relevant studies by ...
Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) has been described as a condition that characteristically affects the jaws of middle-aged black women. This condition has also been classified as gigantiform cementoma, chronic sclerosing osteomyelitis, sclerosing osteitis, multiple estenosis and sclerotic cemental masses. It usually exhibits as multiple radiopaque cementum-like masses distributed through...
Two hundred fifty-five solitary and 42 multiple cases of fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws, and 74 cases of sclerosing osteomyelitis were studied clinico-pathologically, in order to discuss the entity of peculiar cemental lesion with sequester-like appearance, which occurs mainly in the mandibular molar area of over middle-aged females. Four allied lesions, including the sequester-like cemental...
