The effect of irradiation on thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and volatile compounds in raw and cooked nonirradiated and irradiated chicken breast meat infused with green tea and grape seed extracts was investigated. Chicken breast meat was vacuum infused with green tea extract (3,000 ppm), grape seed extract (3,000 ppm), or their combination (at a total of 6,000 ppm), irradiated...

ABSTRACT- Today, the authenticity of meat products with less costly and desirable species has increased. Therefore and considering religious, economicalor public health concerns, proper actions should be taken to prevent such frauds. In this study, real time PCR assay was applied for rapid, sensitive and specific identification and quantification of chicken tissue in meat products. Specific pri...

Foodborne diseases affect millions of people each year. To reduce the incidence of bacterial foodborne pathogens more effective treatment methods are needed. In this study, we evaluated the effect of marinating chicken breast fillets with extracts of lemon, green tea and turmeric against Campylobacter jejuni and Salmonella enteritidis. The prepared plant extracts in phosphate buffered saline we...

The Green-legged Partridgelike (GP) fowl, an old native Polish breed, is characterised by reseda green-coloured shanks rather than yellow, white, slate or black commonly observed across most domestic breeds of chicken. Here, we investigate the origin, genetic relationships and structure of the GP fowl using mtDNA D-loop sequencing and genome-wide SNP analysis. Genome-wide association analysis b...

Rous sarcoma virus (RSV)-derived retroviral vector could efficiently deliver the green fluorescent protein (GFP), which is driven by the internal cytomegalovirus enhancer/promoter, into restricted cell populations in the chicken embryo. RSV-derived vectors coupled with the tet regulatory elements also revealed doxycycline-dependent inducible GFP expression in the chicken embryo in ovo.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether combined capsaicin, green tea, and chicken essence tablets (CCGC) enhance human autonomic nervous activities (ANS) associated with thermogenic sympathetic activity without any adverse effect on the cardiac depolarization-repolarization period. Six healthy males (25.2 +/-1.7 y) volunteered for this experiment. Autonomic nervous activities were...

Using 351 one-day weighted diet records, we selected foods providing vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber according to contribution analysis (CA) and multiple regression analysis (MRA). Vitamin C was supplied by various vegetables and fruits, and carotene was specifically derived from green-yellow vegetables based on MRA as well as CA. Vitamin A was provided by green-yellow vegetables, fruits, ...

Chicken embryo lethal orphan (CELO) virus replication studies in adult hamster kidney and green monkey kidney cell cultures by means of infectivity, cytochemistry, and fluorescent-antibody techniques indicated that replication in hamster kidney cells was limited to the production of neoantigen. Production of virus in green monkey kidney cells was limited but appeared to exceed the production of...

Avian species are renowned for their ability to conceal clinical evidence of disease until the pathological process is advanced. As in mammalian species, total protein (TP) measurement forms part of any routine biochemistry profile, often evaluated in conjunction with other biochemical and haematological parameters to assess the health status of the bird. However, significant variation in prote...

The chicken lysozyme gene encodes a hydrolase that has a key role in defence, especially in ovo. This gene was resequenced in global chicken populations [red, grey, Ceylon and green jungle fowl (JF)] and related bird species. Networks, summary statistics and tests of neutrality indicate that although there is extensive variation at the gene, little is present at coding sites, with the exception...
