BACKGROUND Coronary artery perforation associated to cardiac tamponade is an uncommon life-threatening complication of percutaneous coronary intervention, and the occurrence of subepicardial or intramyocardial hematoma without hemopericardium is even rarer. CLINICAL CASE We describe the case of a 72 year-old woman with a subepicardial hematoma after percutaneous coronary intervention, who req...
Constrictive pericarditis (CP) following hemopericardium has been reported in the literature but its pathogenesis is open to question. Proposed mechanisms include trauma leading to damage of the mesothelial lining resulting in decreased fibrinolytic activity in the presence of blood. We present a patient who sustained blunt thoracoabdominal trauma in a car accident and subsequently developed de...

We report the case of a newborn who suffered right atrial laceration during delivery. To our knowledge, there has been no previous report of blunt injury causing right atrial laceration with hemopericardium complicated by cardiac tamponade in the perinatal period.
BACKGROUND Cardiac tamponade is a rare but severe complication of pericardial effusion with a poor prognosis. Prompt diagnosis using transthoracic echocardiography allows guiding initial therapeutic management. Although etiologies are numerous, cardiac tamponade is more often due to a hemopericardium. Rarely, a coronary injury may result in such a hemopericardium with cardiac tamponade. Coronar...
