The flavonoid naringin was found to induce the expression of hrmA, a gene with a symbiotic phenotype in the cyanobacterium Nostoc punctiforme. A comparative analysis of several flavonoids revealed the 7-O-neohesperidoside, 4'-OH, and C-2-C-3 double bond in naringin as structural determinants of its hrmA-inducing activity.

Listeria monocytogenes is the causative bacteria of listeriosis, which has a higher mortality rate than that of other causes of food poisoning. Listeria spp., of which L. monocytogenes is a member, have been isolated from food and manufacturing environments. Several methods have been published for identifying Listeria spp.; however, many of the methods cannot identify newly categorized Listeria...

We present here data showing that the Avr proteins HrmA and AvrPto are secreted in culture via the native Hrp pathways from Pseudomonas syringae pathovars that produce these proteins. Moreover, their secretion is strongly affected by the temperature and pH of the culture medium. Both HrmA and AvrPto were secreted at their highest amounts when the temperature was between 18 and 22 degrees C and ...

A new multichannel MAC protocol called Hop-Reservation Multiple Access (HRMA) for wireless ad-hoc networks (multi-hop packet radio networks) is introduced, specified and analyzed. HRMA is based on simple half-duplex, very-slow frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) radios and takes advantage of the time synchronization necessary for frequency hopping. HRMA allows a pair of communicating nodes...

The high-resolution melting curve analysis (HRMA) might be a good alternative method for rapid detection of BRAF mutations. However, the accuracy of HRMA in detection of BRAF mutations has not been systematically evaluated. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis involving 1324 samples from 14 separate studies. The overall sensitivity of HRMA was 0.99 (95% confidence interval (CI) = ...

Hotspot mutations of serine/arginine-rich splicing factor 2 (SRSF2) gene have been identified in a proportion of hematologic malignancies including myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The aim of the present study was to develop a new approach to screen SRSF2 mutation and analyze the clinical relevance of SRSF2 mutations in Chinese MDS. A protocol based on high-resolution melting analysis (HRMA) was...

An increasing trend in non albicans infections and various susceptibility patterns to antifungal agents implies a requirement for the quick and reliable identification of a number of medically important Candida species. Real-time PCR followed by high resolution melting analysis (HRMA) was developed, tested on 25 reference Candida collection strains and validated on an additional 143 clinical is...

Transposon-generated mutant strain UCD 328 of Nostoc punctiforme strain ATCC 29133 has a phenotype of an increased sensitivity to a hormogonium-inducing factor exuded by a symbiotic plant partner, Anthoceros punctatus, and an initial increased hormogonium-dependent infection of the plant. Sequence analysis showed that the transposition site in strain UCD 328 lies within a 1,251-bp open reading ...

PURPOSE Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, especially deletional mutations in exon 19 (DEL) and L858R, predict gefitinib sensitivity in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study, we validated EGFR mutation detection using high-resolution melting analysis (HRMA) and evaluated the associations between EGFR mutations and clinical outcomes in advanced NSCLC pat...

BACKGROUND Routine medical microbiology diagnostics relies on conventional cultivation followed by phenotypic techniques for identification of pathogenic bacteria and fungi. This is not only due to tradition and economy but also because it provides pure culture needed for antibiotic susceptibility testing. This review focuses on the potential of High Resolution Melting Analysis (HRMA) of double...
