A novel hybrid method for tracking multiple indistinguishable maneuvering targets using a wireless sensor network is introduced in this paper. The problem of tracking the location of targets is formulated as a Maximum Likelihood Estimation. We propose a hybrid optimization method, which consists of an iterative and a heuristic search method, for finding the location of targets simultaneously. T...

Abstract. A numerical method is presented for the treatment of one-dimensional compressible flames. The method consists of a conservative front tracking algorithm for use near the flame and a high-order finite difference scheme for capturing the hvdrodynamics throughout the rest of the domain. The results presented show that the method effectively models the interaction of gas dynamics with bot...

This paper presents a method for solving moving boundary problems associated with phase-change. This method is an explicit interface-tracking scheme that involves the reconstruction and advection of the moving interface on a fixed grid. Three distinct steps are undertaken to handle the movement of the interface: advection and reconstruction (tracking); calculation of normal velocities; and the ...

In this study, we present a numerical solution for the two-phase incompressible flow in the porous media under isothermal condition using a hybrid of the linear lower-order nonconforming finite element and the interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method. This hybridization is developed for the first time in the two-phase modeling and considered as the main novelty of this research. The p...

High-order methods that can resolve interactions of flow-disturbances with shock waves are critical for reliable numerical simulation of strong-shock and turbulence interaction problems. Such problems are not well understood due to limitations of numerical methods. Most of the popular shock-capturing methods are inherently dissipative and may incur numerical oscillations near the shock. Present...

In this paper a novel method for moving object tracking is presented and applied in the context of hand tracking for mobile AugmentedReality (AR) applications. AR glasses-like devices come with an integrated camera capturing the field of view of the user. Hand gestures are the most intuitive interaction modality for manipulating AR contents and hand tracking is the first step towards robust ges...

In this paper we present a hybrid method to track human motions in real-time. With simplified marker sets and monocular video input, the strength of both marker-based and marker-free motion capturing are utilized: A cumbersome marker calibration is avoided while the robustness of the marker-free tracking is enhanced by referencing the tracked marker positions. An improved inverse kinematics sol...

This paper explores the organizational structure and coordination mechanisms used by large ITOvendor organizations. Five global ITO-vendor organizations were studied. The results show that all five use a “front-back hybrid” structure. All five vendors divide their front-end labor pool according to the types of customers that they serve. On the back-end, their labor pools are organized around th...
