3-Substituted Indoles, Indole Alkaloids, UV Spectra, MS Spectra, 1H NMR spectra Methods are described which allow the synthesis of several plant indole alkaloids and their metabolites at different scales. Compounds synthesized include gramine (1) (3-dimethylaminomethylindole) which is directly derived from indole, while its biosynthetic precursors 3-aminomethylindole (3) and 3-methylaminomethyl...

Two new indole alkaloids, metagenetriindole A (1) and metagenebiindole A (2), were identified from deep-sea sediment metagenomic clone derived Escherichia coli fermentation broth. The structures of new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. The two new indole alkaloids demonstrated moderately cytotoxic activity against CNE2, Bel7402 and HT1080 cancer cell lines in vitro.

A two-step route for the enantioselective construction of the tetracyclic ring system of uleine alkaloids, involving the stereoselective conjugate addition of an appropriate indole-containing nucleophile to a chiral bicyclic delta-lactam and the subsequent cyclization on the indole 3-position of the resulting 4,5-disubstituted 2-piperidone, has culminated in the formal total synthesis of severa...

This review discusses the isolation, structural elucidation, and biological activities of halogenated indole alkaloids obtained from marine invertebrates. Meridianins and related compounds (variolins, psammopemmins, and aplicyanins), as well as aplysinopsins and leptoclinidamines, are focused on. A compilation of the (13)C-NMR spectral data of these selected natural indole alkaloids is also pro...

Based on recent statistical survey, the cancer is the third important factor in Iran mortality. Vinblastine and vincristine alkaloids are dominantly biosynthesized in the aerial parts of periwinkle, broadly applied for cancer treatment. Therefore, over production of these alkaloids by using the biotechnological approaches is inevitable. Since the terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAS) biosynthesis p...

Three new indole alkaloids, named naucleamide G (1), and nauclealomide B and C (5 and 6), were isolated from the n-BuOH-soluble fraction of an EtOH extract of the leaves of Nauclea officinalis, together with three known alkaloids, paratunamide C (2), paratunamide D (3) and paratunamide A (4). The structures with absolute configurations of the new compounds were identified on the basis of 1D and...

Indole alkaloids are the chemotaxonomic markers of the Aspidosperma genera. Those that have the simplest plumeran skeleton are classified as the precursors of biosynthetic routes and the intermediates for several synthetic reactions. This work aims to review the ¹H and ¹³C-NMR data, up to 2011, describing the skeleton of 35 different plumeran indole alkaloids, from a group of 46 of them, and hi...

New antimalarial treatments are now urgently required, following the emergence of resistance to the most used drugs. Natural products contribute greatly to the therapeutic arsenal in this area, including artemisinin and quinine (and atovaquone, semi-synthetic). Among the natural products, indole alkaloids represent an interesting class of compounds. Screening carried out to date has revealed se...
