「地方創生」が叫ばれるなか，大都市圏からの還流移動（Uターン）者は人口増および地域活性化の担い手として期待されている。しかし，還流移動を促進する出身地の地域特性，つまり，どのような地域であれば戻りたいのかという点についての量的調査は限られている。そこで本研究は，全国の大都市居住者を対象としたインターネット調査データを用いて，将来的な還流移動意思が出身地の地域特性（利便性や子育て環境など）によって異なるのかどうかを定量的に分析した。その結果，利便性や所得水準が高い出身地に対しては還流移動意思が生じやすく，特に女性の場合は都市的地域を強く志向していることが明らかになった。他方で，子育て環境や移住支援制度は正の関連を示さなかったことから，地方への還流移動促進にはより多面的な議論が必要であることが示唆された。
