A modified model has been analytically developed to describe the induction time of an elliptic air bubble in contact with an elliptic hydrophobic oil droplet. The role of hydrophobicity was revealed in the slippage of liquid over the surfaces of bubble and droplet. In this condition, the analytical relationships for pressure distribution and consequently hydrodynamic resistance force through th...

It is well known that electro-hydrodynamical effects in freely suspended liquid films can flow the liquid. Here we report a purely electrically driven rotation in water and some other liquid suspended films with full control on the velocity and the chirality of the rotating vortices. The device, which is called “film motor”, consists of a quasi two-dimensional electrolysis cell in an external i...

Jet-wiping is a hydrodynamic method for controlling the liquid film thickness in a coating process. In industrial conditions, the jet is generally turbulent. When the jet wipes a liquid film, it usually induces violent film instability called splashing. The instability is characterized by the ejection of droplets from the runback flow. Consequently, it can degrade the final coating quality sinc...

This work applies the molecular dynamics simulation method to study a Lennard-Jones liquid thin film suspended in the vapor and to explore the film thickness effect on its stability. For the accurate estimation of local pressure distributions in the film, an improved method is proposed and used. Simulation results indicate that profiles of the local surface tension distribution vary widely with...

We describe a spatial pattern arising from the nonuniform evaporation of a colloidal film. Immediately after the film deposition, an obstacle is positioned above its free surface, minimizing evaporation at this location. In a first stage, the film dries everywhere but under the obstacle, where a liquid region remains. Subsequently, this liquid region evaporates near its boundaries with the dry ...

morphology of surface oxide film formed during pouring of molten magnesium alloy has been investigated. due to surface turbulence during casting, the oxide film necessarily makes folded cause in a dry surface to dry surface mode creating a double oxide film with the volume of air that can be encapsulated between folds of the film and this led to make gas bubbles or shrinkage cavities form. thes...

A “dry” conical soap film on a cubical frame is not stable. Recent experimental evidence seems to indicate that adding liquid to form Plateau borders stabilizes the conical film, perhaps to arbitrarily low liquid fractions. This paper presents numerical simulation evidence that the the wet cone is unstable for low enough liquid fraction, with the critical liquid fraction being about 0.000278.

The dynamic interaction between a local probe and a viscous liquid film, which provokes the deformation of the latter, has been studied. The pressure difference across the air-liquid interface is calculated with a modified Young-Laplace equation, which takes into account the effects of gravity, surface tension, and liquid film-substrate and probe-liquid attractive interaction potentials. This p...

An extruded composite food packaging film containing pectin, polylactic acids (PLAs) and nisin was developed to inhibit Listeria monocytogenes. The mechanical properties and surface structure of the film were also examined. Cells of L. monocytogenes were reduced by 2.1, 4.5 and 3.7 log units mL by the pectin plus PLA (pectin ⁄PLA) film containing nisin (1000 IU mL of tested liquid) in Brain Hea...

We consider the deposition of a film of viscous liquid on a flat plate being withdrawn from a bath, experimentally and theoretically. For any plate speed U, there is a range of "thick" film solutions whose thickness scales like U{1/2} for small U. These solutions are realized for a partially wetting liquid, while for a perfectly wetting liquid the classical Landau-Levich-Derjaguin film is obser...
