OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to compare the diagnostic role of features reflecting the geometry of clusters with features reflecting the shape of the individual microcalcification in a mammographic computer-aided diagnosis system. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three hundred twenty-four cases of clustered microcalcifications with biopsy-proven results were digitized at 42-microm resolutio...

Prostatic calcification is most commonly encountered as calculus or intraluminal calcifications within atypical small glandular proliferations. This study was undertaken to detect stromal microcalcifications in prostate tissue. All slides from 194 needle biopsies were retrospectively reviewed. Six cases (3.1%) had stromal microcalcifications constantly associated with mononuclear inflammatory i...

Texture analysis has been very much used in medical image problems as well as related areas such as computer vision and pattern recognition. Among all medical image task detection of microcalcification on mammograms is the most difficult one because breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer that leads to death in women today. More over microcalcification are deposits of calcium that can be see...

Early detection of breast cancer can be detected through screening mammography. However, the potential abnormality such as microcalcification hardly differentiated by radiologists due to tiny size, which sometimes hidden behind density tissue. Therefore, image segmentation technique is required. This paper proposes use Parametric Kernel Graph Cut Algorithm in segmenting microcalcification. The ...

In this paper we present a complete system to detect breast cancer. Main objective is to support radiologists with automatic, semantic based, search methods directly over medical images. The complete step of microcalcification detection in mammography images is presented. We use a three stage algorithm that allows the detection and classification of microcalcification with satisfactory results.

The aim of this study was to compare the detection of microcalcification clusters by human observers in breast images using 2D-mammography and narrow (15°/15 projections) and wide (50°/25 projections) angle digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT). Simulated microcalcification clusters with a range of microcalcification diameters (125 μm-275 μm) were inserted into 6 cm thick simulated compressed brea...

Breast metastasis from gastric carcinoma is rare. We present a case of right breast mass with microcalcification in which the diagnosis of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma from the stomach was made after a biopsy. Pleomorphic microcalcification was noted in the ill-defined breast mass, which is a rare feature in breast metastasis. Since breast metastasis usually signifies advanced metastati...

Mammogram is important for early breast cancer detection. But due to the low contrast of microcalcifications and noise, it is difficult to detect microcalcification. This paper presents a comparative study in digital mammography image enhancement based on three different algorithms: homomorphic filtering, unsharp masking and our proposed methods. This latter uses a hybrid method Combining conto...

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among the women. Mammogram analysis is the most effective method that helps in the early detection of breast cancer. Microcalcification, masses, and architectural detection in the mammogram plays an important role in the later stages of diagnosis. In this paper we propose an effective method for the detection and classification of clustered mi...

Dual energy methods can suppress the contrast between adipose and glandular tissues in the breast and therefore enhance the visibility of calcifications. In this study, a dual energy method based on analytical modeling was developed for the detection of minimum microcalcification thickness. To this aim, a modified radiographic X-ray unit was considered, in order to overcome the limited kVp rang...
