Micromixers with floor-grooved microfluidic channels have been successfully demonstrated in experiment. In this work, we numerically simulated the mixing within the devices and used the obtained concentration versus channel length profiles to quantitatively characterize the process. It was found that the concentration at any given cross-section location of the microfluidic channel periodically ...
Abstract For the first time, micromixing characterization for Villermaux–Dushman reaction could be performed with a non-reactive viscous medium at viscosities up to 2 Pas. As medium, sucrose solution was used benefit of being Newtonian fluid tuneable viscosity. Due higher in comparison established media investigations, new protocol experimental implementation developed. Micromixing experiments ...
In this paper, micromixing is investigated in two Spinning Disk Reactors for liquids with increased viscosity. Glycerol and CMC were used as viscosity modifiers characterization was performed by means of the Villermaux–Dushman method. For first time, effects increasing pH bulk solution leading to disproportionation reaction iodine are successfully modeled. A kinetic model proposed account prese...
A new analytical tool for determining the optimum frequency for a micromixing strategy to mix two fluids across their interface is presented. The frequency dependence of the flux is characterized in terms of a Fourier transform related to the apparatus geometry. Illustrative microfluidic mixing examples based on electromagnetic forcing and fluid pumping strategies are presented.
Versatile prototyping of 3D printed lab-on-a-chip devices, supporting different forms of sample delivery, transport, functionalization and readout, is demonstrated with a consumer grade printer, which centralizes all critical fabrication tasks. Devices cost 0.57US$ and are demonstrated in chemical sensing and micromixing examples, which exploit established principles from reference technologies.
In this paper, we extend the MURM (Modified Universe Reaction Model) of a CSTR to a tubular reactor with axial dispersion. Furthermore, we use this mixing model to study the effort of the micromixing on the steady state multiplicity for an autocatalytical reaction of tubular reactor.
A method for releasing the content of microdroplets by changing the channel wall wettability is proposed. The contents of aqueous droplets were released to the continuous phase by inverting 10-µm-sized W/O droplets into O/W ones in a 2-µm-deep hydrophilic channel. The combination of "encapsulation" and "release" in microdroplets facilitates micromixing and reaction.
This paper begins with a survey of both passive and active microfluidic mixers that have been implemented in recent years. It then describes a micromixing device based on dynamic self-assembly. This device is easy to fabricate and has excellent working characteristics in the continuous-flow mode. The paper concludes with a brief discussion of possible applications of self-assembly in microfluid...
