RATIONALE We describe seizure and neuropsychological outcome obtained after CAH in patients with TLE and normal MRI evaluated in the modern imaging era. METHODS Forty-five adult consecutive patients with TLE and normal MRI were studied. All patients had neuropsychological testing, interictal and ictal EEG recordings and MRI. They were divided into two groups: Group 1 (n=18), included patients...
We investigate the properties of Lie algebras of characteristic p which satisfy the Engel identity xy" = 0 for some n < p. We establish a criterion which (when satisfied) implies that if a and b are elements of an Engel-n Lie algebra L then abn~2 generates a nilpotent ideal of I. We show that this criterion is satisfied for n = 6, p = 1, and we deduce that if G is a finite m-generator group of ...
We investigate the surjectivity of the word map defined by the n-th Engel word on the groups PSL(2, q) and SL(2, q). For SL(2, q), we show that this map is surjective onto the subset SL(2, q)\{−id} ⊂ SL(2, q) provided that q ≥ q0(n) is sufficiently large. Moreover, we give an estimate for q0(n). We also present examples demonstrating that this does not hold for all q. We conclude that the n-th ...
Let m,n be positive integers, v a multilinear commutator word and w = vm. We prove that if G is a residually finite group in which all wvalues are n-Engel, then the verbal subgroup w(G) is locally nilpotent. We also examine the question whether this is true in the case where G is locally graded rather than residually finite. We answer the question affirmatively in the case where m = 1. Moreover...
We find a bound for the exponent of the Schur multiplier of a finite p-group in terms of the exponent and Engel length of the given group. It is also proved that if G is a 3-Engel group of finite exponent, then the exponent of H2(G) divides exp G. When G is a 4-Engel group of exponent e, the exponent of H2(G) divides 10e.
A group word w is said to be strongly concise in a class C $\mathcal C$ of profinite groups if, for any G , either takes at least continuum many values or the verbal subgroup ( ) $w(G)$ finite. It conjectured that all words are groups. Earlier Detomi, Klopsch, and Shumyatsky proved this conjecture multilinear commutator words, as well some other particular words. They also every nilpotent group...
