We correlated the grade of nasal smear eosinophilia with severity of allergic rhinitis, in 50 children in a cross sectional study conducted at a tertiary care referral hospital, between August 2007 to July 2009. The grade of nasal smear eosinophilia correlated well with increasing severity of allergic rhinitis (P<0.001)(r=0.83).
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to compare the usefulness of nasal smear eosinophilia with skin prick test for the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis and to determine the degree of correlation between the tests. PATIENTS AND METHODS Forty-one patients (16 males, 25 females; mean age 35.17; range 14 to 56 years) with a clinical history suggestive of nasal allergy and fifteen controls (7 males...
INTRODUCTION The term allergic march has been used to describe natural evolution of the atopic disease in children, accompanied by the change in organ manifestation with time. The aim of the study was to analyze the role of the cellular components of the nasal cytology as a tool for prediction of atopic diseases and clinical symptoms preceding allergic march. MATERIAL AND METHODS In a retrosp...
Background: Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common forms of allergic disorders affecting children. The prevalence rate of allergic rhinitis differs among countries and even among regions within the same country. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of childhood allergic rhinitis and the presence and significance of eosinophilia in nasal secretions. Method: 4584 children aged 11-15 years...
Introduction: Kimura’s disease is a rare chronic inflammatory disease of unknown etiology, presenting as painless subcutaneous nodules with lymphadenopathy and peripheral eosinophilia, mainly disturbing the head and neck region. It mainly affects Asian males in their 2nd to 4th decade of life. One such case of Kimura’s disease, which is uncommon in Indian natives, is reported. Case Report: A ...
churg strauss syndrome (css) is a form of primary vasculitis that is characterized by severe eosinophilia and often granulomatous inflammation as well as history of asthma or allergy. previously, the association between cysteinyl leukotrien receptor antagonists (ltras), corticosteroid withdrawal or a sudden change in its used method and css had been established. we report three cases that have ...
UNLABELLED Nasal polyps, according to many authors, generate as a result of chronic inflammation process with activation of cytokines, immunological reaction mediators that regulate proliferation, differentiation and cell apoptosis. Clarifying molecular mechanisms present in those disturbances may have diagnostic and prognostic value in evaluation of recurrence, dynamics and differentiation of ...
INTRODUCTION Cysteinyl leukotrienes (cys-LTs), 8-isoprostane and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) constitute fundamental mediators in allergic inflammation; therefore we wanted to determine the utility of PGE2, 8-isoprostane and cys-LT levels in nasal lavage as biomarkers of allergic inflammation. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-one patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) were included on the basis of a posi...
