Numb, an evolutionarily conserved cell fate-determining factor, plays a pivotal role in the development of Drosophila and vertebrate nervous systems. Despite lacking a transmembrane segment, Numb is associated with the cell membrane during the asymmetric cell division of Drosophila neural precursor cells and is selectively partitioned to one of the two progeny cells from a binary cell division....

BACKGROUND Sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma (SSCC) and nasal inverted papilloma (NIP) represent the predominant type of malignant and benign tumors in sinonasal tract, respectively. CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ natural regulatory T (Treg) cells might play critical role(s) in the suppression of anti-tumor immune response and thus shed light on tumor progression from benign to malignant. OBJECTIVE This s...

Both thymus-derived (T) and bone marrow-derived (B) lymphocytes participate in the response to a hapten 4-hydroxy-3-iodo-5-nitrophenylacetic acid (NIP), coupled to a nonimmunogenic isologous carrier, mouse gamma globulin (MGG). Spleen cells from mice immunized with NIP-MGG show increased DNA synthesis in vitro when cultured with NIP-MGG. The participation of and requirement for T cells in the r...

Normal spleen cells were separated in dishes coated with thin layers of DNP-gelatin or NIP-gelatin into binding and nonbinding cells and stimulated in vitro with DNP- and/or NIP-conjugated polymerized flagellin (POL). Hapten-specific unresponsiveness was induced in the binding cell population by melting the gel at 37 degrees C or in unfractionated cells by pretreatment with soluble hapten-gelat...

A first order theory is NIP if all definable families of subsets have finite VCdimension. We provide a justification for the intuition that NIP structures should be a combination of stable and order-like components. More precisely, we prove that any type in an NIP theory can be decomposed into a stable part (a generically stable partial type) and an order-like quotient.

PURPOSE N-myristoyltransferase (NMT) is a ubiquitously distributed eukaryotic enzyme that catalyzes myristoylation of proteins. Very little is known about the process of myristoylation, particularly in the eye. In the present study, the distribution, expression, and correlation of NMT and its inhibitor (NMT inhibitor protein, NIP) in the bovine eye were investigated. METHODS Whole bovine eyes...

BACKGROUND Simpson-Angus Scale (SAS) is an established instrument for neuroleptic-induced parkinsonism (NIP), but its statistical properties have been studied insufficiently. Some shortcomings concerning its content have been suggested as well. According to a recent report, the widely used SAS mean score cut-off value 0.3 of for NIP detection may be too low. Our aim was to evaluate SAS against ...

We studied the mechanisms of hypolipidemic effects of NIP-200 (3,5-dimethyl-4,6-diphenyltetrahydro-2H-1,3,5-thiadiazine- 2-thione), a potent hypolipidemic compound, in cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver, cholesterol absorption in small intestine, and cholesterol catabolism and excretion in rats. NIP-200 did not reduce cholesterol biosynthesis and had no effects on cholesterol absorption in t...

Implicitly parallel programming languages place the burden of exploiting and managing parallelism upon the compiler and runtime system, rather than on the programmer. This paper describes the design of NIP, a runtime system for supporting implicit parallelism in languages which combine both functional and objectoriented programming. NIP is designed for scaleable distributed memory systems inclu...

Legume root architecture involves not only elaboration of the root system by the formation of lateral roots but also the formation of symbiotic root nodules in association with nitrogen-fixing soil rhizobia. The Medicago truncatula LATD/NIP gene plays an essential role in the development of both primary and lateral roots as well as nodule development. We have cloned the LATD/NIP gene and show t...
