d t p d t A d n HE CHOICE OF STATISTICAL TEST HAS A PROFOUND impact on the interpretation of data. Understanding this choice is important for the critical evaluation of he biomedical literature. The question often arises hether to use nonparametric or parametric tests. The test is the most widely used statistical test for comparing he means of 2 independent groups. This parametric test ssumes t...
adsorption isotherm modeling of phenol onto natural soils – applicability of various isotherm models
liquid-phases adsorption equilibrium of phenol onto two naturally available soils namely kalathur soil (kr) and adhanur soil (ar) were studied. the experimental data were analyzed using fourteen isotherm models, ranging from single-parametric model to multi-parametric models (up to 5 parameters) of the system. results show that in general the accuracy of models to fit experimental data improves...

First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Seth Zimmerman is the first author on 'Cells lay their own tracks - optogenetic Cdc42 activation stimulates fibronectin deposition supporting directed migration', published in Journal of Cell Scie...
We make the first calculation in lattice QCD of two-photon decays of mesons. Working in the charmonium sector, using the Lehmann-Symanzik-Zimmermann reduction to relate a photon to a sum of hadronic vector eigenstates, we compute form factors in both the spacelike and timelike domains for the transitions eta c --> gamma*gamma* and chi(c0) --> gamma*gamma*. At the on-shell point, we find approxi...
Scholz and Stephens (1987, Journal of the American Statistical Association 82, 918-924) proposed a nonparametric k-sample Anderson-Darling statistic for grouped data. This note demonstrates that a partition-of-chi 2 method may give a more powerful nonparametric test, particularly when alternatives other than location shift are important. A taste-test example provides motivation.
