Palladium nanostructures were deposited onto carbon nanoparticle surface by a chemical reduction method. Transmission electron microscopic studies showed that whereas the resulting metal-carbon (Pd-CNP) nanocomposites exhibited a diameter of 20 to 30 nm, the metal components actually showed a cauliflower-like surface morphology that consisted of numerous smaller Pd nanoparticles (3 to 8 nm). El...

Palladium (Pd) nanoparticles (5-20 nm) are used as the sensing layer on surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices for detecting H2. The interaction with hydrogen modifies the conductivity of the Pd nanoparticle film, producing measurable changes in acoustic wave propagation, which allows for the detection of this explosive gas. The nanoparticle-based SAW sensor responds rapidly and reversibly at room...

Titania nanotubes (TNTs) impregnated with Pd and Pt nanoparticles are evaluated as heterogeneous catalysts in different conditions two reactions: catalytic CO oxidation (gas phase, up to 500 °C) H2O2 direct synthesis (liquid 30 °C). The TNTs obtained via of titanium metal the intermediate layer-type sodium titanate Na2Ti3O7. Thereafter, layers exfoliated show self-rolling TNTs, which, finally, ...

Semiconducting, insulating, and metallic nanoparticles have attracted considerable interest due to their size-dependent, quantum confinement characteristics, which make them attractive for a wide range of optical, magnetic, and electronic devices. We report on the deposition of Pd nanoparticles prepared with reverse micellae of water/AOT/isooctane solution on the surface of n-type InP substrate...

The electrochemical properties of Au and Pd monolayer-protected clusters (MPCs), prepared by dendrimer-templating and subsequent extraction, are described. Differential pulse voltammetry was used to estimate the size of the MPCs, and the results were compared to microscopic data and calculated values. Purification of the extracted Au and Pd nanoparticles was not required to obtain well-defined ...

We present a mechanistic study on selective hydrogenation of acrolein over model Pd surfaces--both single crystal Pd(111) and Pd nanoparticles supported on a model oxide support. We show for the first time that selective hydrogenation of the C═O bond in acrolein to form an unsaturated alcohol is possible over Pd(111) with nearly 100% selectivity. However, this process requires a very distinct m...

The layer-by-layer processing of Au/Au(x)Pd(1-x) core/alloy nanoparticles via microwave irradiation (MWI) based hydrothermal heating is described. Alloy shell growth was monitored by the attenuation of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) as a function of shell thickness and composition. Discrete dipole approximation (DDA) correlated the SPR to particle morphology.

Layers of palladium (Pd) nanoparticles on indium phosphide (InP) were prepared by electrophoretic deposition from the colloid solution of Pd nanoparticles. Layers prepared by an opposite polarity of deposition showed different physical and morphological properties. Particles in solution are separated and, after deposition onto the InP surface, they form small aggregates. The size of the aggrega...

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of Al2O3 using trimethylaluminum (TMA) and water on Pd nanoparticles (NPs) was studied by combining in situ quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) measurements, in situ quadrupole mass spectrometry (QMS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. TEM images of the ALD Al2O3 overcoated Pd showed conformal Al2O3 films on...

The synergistic effect of WC and Pd has large benefit for ethanol electrooxidation. The small-sized Pd nanoparticles (NPs) decorated tungsten carbide on graphene (Pd-WC/GN) will be a promising anode catalyst for the direct ethanol fuel cells. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the strong interaction exists at the interface between Pd and WC, which induces the electron ...
