In this paper we present a novel approach of automatic detection of phonatory and articulatory impairments caused by Parkinson’s disease (PD). Modulated (varying between low and high pitch) and sustained vowels are considered and analysed. The fundamental frequency of the phonations and its range are computed using the Hilbert-Huang transformation. Additionally, a set with “standard” measures a...
This paper conducts acoustic experiments from a signal processing perspective, to examine the “-/a/ /C_” syllable narrow focus processing strategy of English L2 learners. The research discusses F0, OQ and SQ as key phonatory acoustic parameters. L2 strategies are examined by measuring deviations from L1 group to L2 group. The matrix distance reflects L1’s traces in the interlanguage system.
We have examined a tonal system of modern Hanoi dialect of Vietnamese. This has been described for a long time as a pitch contour prominent system with secondary phonatory variations. The present study aims to propose certain laryngeal features, [tense] and [glottal constriction], in addition to the former prosodic feature, [high], to cover the overall distinction within the system. Some acoust...

This paper is concerned with the role of phonatory quality in signalling affect. An overview of perception experiments is presented, which used synthetic stimuli with different phonatory qualities and f 0 contours in order to explore the mapping of voice quality to affect as well as the way in which voice quality combines with f 0. Results highlight the need for these phonetic parameters to be ...
Parkinsonian dysarthria is generally known under the name of hypokinetic dysarthria. Dysarthria, according to Darley et al (1969), is characterized by all speech disorders related to disturbances of muscular control of the speech organs, whose origin is a central or peripheral nervous system injury. So we must understand by dysarthria all failures related to either different levels of speech pr...
A rational approach toward the development of improved techniques for the prevention, detection, diagnosis, and correction of vocal pathologies rests on an improved understanding of voice mechanisms. To achieve these goals, we need to better understand the dimensions of phonatory performance and their dependence both on the state of laryngeal structures and on patterns of control. Because of th...
