Internal impulse and step responses are derived from the thresholds of short probe flashes by means of a drift-correcting perturbation technique. The approach is based on only two postulated systems properties: quasi-linearity and peak detection. A special feature of the technique is its strong reduction of the concealing effect of sensitivity drift within and between sessions. Results were fou...

The measurement of transverse spin effects in semi-inclusive deepinelastic scattering (SIDIS) is an important part of the COMPASS physics program. In the years 2002-2004 data was taken by scattering a 160GeV/c muon beam off a transversely polarized deuteron target. In 2007, additional data was collected on a transversely polarized proton target. New preliminary results for the Collins and Siver...

We shall examine a model, first studied by Brockwell et al., which can be used to describe the long-term behaviour of populations that are subject to catastrophic mortality or emigration events. Populations can suffer dramatic declines when disease, such as an introduced virus, affects the population, or when food shortages occur, due to overgrazing or fluctuations in rainfall. However, perhaps...

This paper presents a framework to develop a generic and physical Double-Gate MOSFET model. Due to limited available physical data and existence of a large variety of device structures, flexibility to assemble model modules to accommodate different device structures takes a much high precedence compared with conventional modeling approaches. In addition, detail device physics based on 2D and ev...

The problem of countably quasi-barrelledness of weighted spaces of continuous functions, of which there are no results in the general setting of weighted spaces, is tackled in this paper. This leads to the study of quasi-barrelledness of weighted spaces in which, unlike that of Ernst and Schnettler (1986), though with a similar approach, we drop the assumption that the weighted space has a fund...

We report on a high pressure cell with six optical windows which can be used up to 2 kbars for laser light scattering applications at scattering angles of 45 degrees , 90 degrees , and 135 degrees of liquid samples in a temperature range between -20 and 150 degrees C. The pressure transmitting medium is compressed nitrogen. The window material used is SF57 NSK, a glass with an extremely low str...

We study regularity criteria for weak solutions of the dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation (with dissipation (−∆)γ/2, 0 < γ ≤ 1). We show in this paper that if θ ∈ C((0, T ); C1−γ), or θ ∈ Lr((0, T ); Cα) with α = 1−γ+ γ r is a weak solution of the 2D quasi-geostrophic equation, then θ is a classical solution in (0, T ]× R2. This result improves our previous result in [18].

The high–energy quark–quark scattering amplitude is calculated first in the case of scalar QCD, using Fradkin’s approach to derive the scalar quark propagator in an external gluon field and computing it in the eikonal approximation. The results are then extended to the case of “real” (i.e., fermion) QCD. The high–energy quark–quark scattering amplitude turns out to be described by the expectati...
