We introduce a small-core air-guiding photonic crystal fiber whose cladding is made of improved air-silica photonic crystal with non-circular air holes placed in triangular lattice. The fiber achieves un-disturbed bandgap guidance over 350nm wavelength range.

In this paper, a stochastic term is added to the classical generalized nonlinear Schrödinger Equation to describe the noise generated when light pulses propagate in a fiber. It has been shown that the generated supercontinuum light source fluctuates up to 50% of its output temporal intensity profile due to noises of different sources. The simulation method devised has been applied to the propag...

We demonstrate a highly tunable deep notch filter realized in a liquid-crystal photonic-bandgap (LCPBG) fiber. The filter is realized without inducing a long-period grating in the fiber but simply by filling a solid-core photonic-crystal fiber with a liquid crystal and exploiting avoided crossings within the bandgap of the LCPBG fiber. The filter is demonstrated experimentally and investigated ...

This paper presents a triangular-lattice photonic crystal fiber for analysis of nearly zero ultra-flattened dispersion like 0.96 -0.86 ps/nm/km with very low confinement loss less than 10 db/km, moderate effective area, lower splice loss & nonlinear coefficient property of photonic crystal fibers. A five-ringed photonic crystal fiber have be designed using Comsol 4.2 with the finite element met...

Photonic crystal fibers and fiber lasers have been two of the most rapidly evolving areas of optics and photonics over the past few years. Recent developments in the field of photonic crystal fibers are enabling new ways to generate, transform, and deliver light, and have significant implications for fiber laser design and applications. We review the ways in which photonic crystal fibers are af...

In this work, we present a novel interferometer based on liquid crystal and photonic crystal fiber technology. The objective of this project is the development of a tunable (switchable) modal (MachZehnder) interferometer for optical communications or sensing. This interferometer has been manufactured splicing a short portion (between 15 and 30 mm) of photonic crystal fiber with two single mode ...

We report on a high-power ytterbium doped photonic crystal fiber amplifier using a single-frequency Nd:YAG non-planar ring oscillator seed source. With a large-mode-area photonic crystal fiber, operation below the threshold of stimulated Brillouin scattering is demonstrated with up to 148 W of continuous-wave output power and a slope efficiency of 75%. At maximum output power the amplified spon...

A highly dispersive dual-concentric-core pure silica photonic crystal fiber is designed with a maximum chromatic dispersion value of about -9500 ps/(nm km) around the 1.56 microm wavelength region and a full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 55 nm. The change in the dispersion-bandwidth product as a function of period is carefully studied by using the plane wave expansion method. The coupled mode...

In this paper, a fractal photonic crystal fiber (F-PCF) based on the 1st iteration of Koch fractal configuration for optical communication systems is presented. Complex structure of fractal shape is build up through replication of a base shape. Nowadays, fractal shapes are used widely in antenna topics and its usage in PCF has not been investigated yet. The purpose of this research is to compar...

We demonstrate the use of photonic-crystal fiber for dispersion compensation in a soliton fiber laser. The anomalous dispersion provided by the photonic-crystal fiber enables us to construct a femtosecond .ber laser at 1 microm wavelength without prisms or diffraction gratings. The laser produces ~100-fs pulses with 1 nJ energy, and is a major step toward environmentally-stable all-fiber device...
