Nitrodiphenylethers, Energy-Transfer Inhibition of ATP Synthesis, Herbicides, Photosynthetic Electron Transport, Pigment Bleaching Nitrodiphenylethers substituted with Cl, CF3, and other comparatively simple substituents are compared with respect to their primary effects on the photosynthetic apparatus. These are direct electron-transport inhibition, energy-transfer inhibition (of ATP synthesis...

Photosynthetic rate is an indicator of vegetation performance as a carbon sequestration element on earth. At the same time, primary productivity is also function of photosynthetic rate and canopy cover. The photosynthetic capacity of an ecosystem is limited by the foliage pigment content due to the active participation of pigmentation in photon capture. Hence, the quantitative assessment of fol...

We previously demonstrated that sucrose and jasmonic acid (JA) interact duringin photosynthetic in the regulation of development and pigment metab olism of the potato (Solanum tuberosum L cv. Sante) grown in vitro. In this study, the research was extended to the effect of light irradiance and quality on sucrose and JA mediated changes. Potato plantlets grown from stem node cul ture were grown...

The impact of feeding injury by the Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), and bird cherry-oat aphid, Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on susceptible and resistant wheat, Triticum aestivum L., near-isogenic lines 'Tugela' (susceptible), Tugela-Dn1 (antibiotic), Tugela-Dn2 (tolerant), and Tugela-Dn5 (antixenotic) was evaluated by assessing photosyn...

Investigations were performed on variations of photosynthetic pigment in conchocelis of Alaskan Porphyra species, P. abbottae (Pa), P. pseudolanceolata (Pe), P. pseudolinearis (Pi) and P. torta (Pt), in response to environmental variables. Conchocelis were cultured under varying conditions of irradiance (0, 10, 40 and 160 μmol photons m-2s-1), nutrient concentration (0, f/4, f/2 and f) for up t...

We report the complete genome sequence of the purple photosynthetic bacterium Blastochloris viridis belonging to α-Proteobacteria. This is the first completed genome sequence of a phototroph producing bacteriochlorophyll b. The genome information will be useful for further analysis of the photosynthetic energy conversion system and bacteriochlorophyll pigment biosynthesis.

Acquisition of new photosynthetic pigments has been a crucial process for the evolution of photosynthesis and photosynthetic organisms. In this process, pigment-binding proteins must evolve to fit new pigments. Prochlorococcus is a unique photosynthetic organism that uses divinyl chlorophyll (DVChl) instead of monovinyl chlorophyll. However, cyanobacterial mutants that accumulate DVChl immediat...

Maximizing light capture by light-harvesting pigment optimization represents an attractive but challenging strategy to improve photosynthetic efficiency. Here, we report that loss of a previously uncharacterized gene, HIGH PHOTOSYNTHETIC EFFICIENCY1 (HPE1), optimizes light-harvesting pigments, leading to improved photosynthetic efficiency and biomass production. Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thalian...

The aim of this study is to evaluate the  effects of water deficit stress on chlorophyll fluorescence (CF) characteristics of photosystem II (PSII) and pigment contents in two rootstock seedlings (Pistacia atlantica L. and P. khinjuk L.). Three levels of soil water potential (Ψs) was used, including WWD (-0.05 MPa), MWD (-0.7 MPa) and SWD (-1.5 MPa). It was found that water stress increased the...
