The world does not need yet another proof of the classical no retraction theorem (NRT) and its equivalent partner the Brouwer fixed point theorem (BFPT)— many lovely elementary proofs are widely known. What does merit a new proof, however, is a much less well-known generalization of the NRT to a broader class of topological spaces than only those that are homeomorphic to balls (which is what th...
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are commonly used for continuous monitoring applications. However, due to remote and inaccessible WSN deployments, the batteries cannot be easily replaced. As a result, the quality of sensor monitoring changes with respect to time. We investigate the rate of change in coverage as sensor nodes are depleted of their energy resources. In this paper, we propose a cov...
We study point-contact tunneling in the integer quantum Hall state of bosons. This symmetry-protected topological state has electrical Hall conductivity equal to 2e/h and vanishing thermal Hall conductivity. In contrast to the integer quantum Hall state of fermions, a point contact can have a dramatic effect on the low energy physics. In the absence of disorder, a point-contact generically lead...
We study point-contact tunneling in the integer quantum Hall state of bosons. This symmetry-protected topological state has electrical Hall conductivity equal to 2e2/h and vanishing thermal Hall conductivity. In contrast to the integer quantum Hall state of fermions, a point contact can have a dramatic effect on the low-energy physics. In the absence of disorder, a point contact generically lea...
We set out to implement a tool to reconstruct a 3-D triangle mesh from a set of points and the corresponding normals of an unknown surface. This surface may have arbitrarily complex topology and geometry, and may contain boundaries. We base our implementation on an influential reconstruction paper [HDD∗92]. Results were generated for a variety of challenging inputs.
We use quantum field theory methods to study the network model for the spin quantum Hall transition. When the couplings are fine tuned in a certain way, the spin and charge degrees of freedom, corresponding to the supercurrent algebras su(2)0 and osp(2|2)−2 respectively, decouple in the renormalization group flow. The infrared fixed point of this simpler theory is the coset osp(4|4)1/su(2)0 whi...
economic dispatch with valve point effect and prohibited operating zones (pozs) is a non-convex and discontinuous optimization problem. harmony search (hs) is one of the recently presented meta-heuristic algorithms for solving optimization problems, which has different variants. the performances of these variants are severely affected by selection of different parameters of the algorithm. intel...
Our answer is the latter. Space-time singularities, including the initial one, are described by world-sheet topological Abelian gauge theories with a Chern-Simons term. Their effective N = 2 supersymmetry provides an initial fixed point where the Bogomolny bound is saturated on the world-sheet, corresponding to an extreme Reissner-Nordstrom solution in space-time. Away from the singularity the ...
This paper is intended to present an advanced technique to be used in solid-state power and energy meters, more specifically through the employment of the Hall effect sensors. From a qualitative point of view, an investigation into the sensing device is performed and geometrical consideration of the Hall cells onto the performance is analyzed. Different Hall cells (basic, L, XL, borderless and ...
