We used the high-precision laser interferometer technique of power recycling to characterize the optical loss of an all-reflective grating beam splitter. This beam splitter was used to set up a Michelson interferometer with a power-recycling resonator with a finesse of 883. Analyzing the results obtained, we determined the beam splitter's total optical loss to be (0.193+/-0.019)%. Low loss all-...

In this paper, a Y-shaped power splitter based on a two dimensional photonic crystal (PhC) for TE modes is designed and optimized. A triangular lattice of air holes is used for Y-shaped power divider. For analyzing these structures, plane wave expansion (PWE) and finite difference time domain (FDTD) methods are used. The simulation results show that more than 98% of the input power is transmitt...

Original scientific paper Radio frequency identification (RFID) is one of the most rapidly growing technologies to be utilized in almost every sector for storing and retrieving data wirelessly. Current advancements in CMOS technology help the scientists and technologists to reduce the size and improve the functionalities of the RFID circuits. In this paper, the design of an RF-CMOS power splitt...

A 1x3 beam splitter using multi-mode interference based on self-imaging is demonstrated theoretically and experimentally in PhCWs. The total transmission of the 1x3 splitter is almost equal to the corresponding length of W1 PhCW. The input power is distributed equally between the output ports within 1dB from 1541nm to 1552nm. All-reflective interferometric gravitational-wave detector configurations with a diffraction grating as a power beam splitter have been proposed to reduce thermal lensing. We demonstrate the use of a diffraction grating as a polarization beam splitter in a zero-area polarization Sagnac interferometer.

This paper proposes a scalable active optical access network using high-speed Plumbum Lanthanum Zirconate Titanate (PLZT) optical switch/splitter. The Active Optical Network, called ActiON, using PLZT switching technology has been presented to increase the number of subscribers and the maximum transmission distance, compared to the Passive Optical Network (PON). ActiON supports the multicast sl...

Pulsed lasers are key elements in nonlinear bioimaging techniques such as two-photon fluorescence excitation (TPE) microscopy. Typically, however, only a percent or less of the laser power available can be delivered to the sample before photoinduced damage becomes excessive. Here we describe a passive pulse splitter that converts each laser pulse into a fixed number of sub-pulses of equal energ...

Based on inspiration from multi-mode interference self-imaging and theoretical FDTD simulations, a 1x3 beam splitter was designed, fabricated and characterized. Measurements show that for TE-polarized incident light the power is distributed equally between the output ports within 1dB in the range from 1541nm to 1552nm, and the total transmission of the 1x3 splitter is equal to the corresponding...

A compact 1 8 waveguide splitter using a guided-wave microlens array is presented and analyzed to show low insertion loss and output imbalance of 0.28 and 0.15 dB, respectively. The analysis results show that the proposed equal-power splitter with insensitive wavelength responses and acceptable fabrication tolerances is applicable for compact and wide-bandwidth integrated optical devices. © 200...
