Cells of proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L. cv Abarr) in liquid culture and leaves of maize seedlings (Zea mays L. cv LH51 x LH1131) readily incorporated d-[U-(14)C]glucose and l-[U-(14)C]arabinose into soluble and cell wall polymers. Radioactivity from arabinose accumulated selectively in polymers containing arabinose or xylose because a salvage pathway and C-4 epimerase yield both nucleotide-...

Background and Aims Intercropping systems contain two or more species simultaneously in close proximity. Due to contrasting features of the component crops, quantification of the light environment and photosynthetic productivity is extremely difficult. However it is an essential component of productivity. Here, a low-tech but high-resolution method is presented that can be applied to single- an...

Seed protein of foxtai1 and proso millets were fractionated into polypeptides that were analyzed for their major protein, prolamin, and the NHrterminal amine acid seqllenccs of the proteins were determined. The proteins extracted from foxtail and proso millets were 64.1% and 80.0% prolamin, respectively. The polypeptides of the prolamins were classMed into two groups. The majer polypeptides of ...

Proso millet stalks are an under-utilized material that remains after the harvest. Given share of large proso in total production Turkey, more than 8% could be easily available as a raw fabrication fuels. Unlike corn, not used green fodder or silage due to higher cellulose content and smaller leaves for animal feeding. In this study, usability plant biofuel feature was tested terms chemical par...

Abstract In this research, the physical properties of millet grains such as length, width, thickness, weight a thousand and size were studied for six varieties represented by Proso grown in Iraq imported foxtail (Ukrainian (1) - Russian (2)), finger small addition to sorghum. study, was superior grain length 1) character while highest value. Before soaking cultivars under bulk density one (0.66...

Millets are renowned for their climatic resilience and possess high nutritive value with wide genetic variations. In countries like India Africa, millets part of many people's regular diets rich sources protein, dietary fiber, polyphenols, minerals, vitamins, other nutrients. The proteomic signatures several millet species, including Fonio, Finger, Proso, Sorghum, Foxtail millet, were examined ...

Linoleic acid was isolated from both the methanol extracts of proso and Japanese millet as a histone deacetylase inhibitor. It showed uncompetitive inhibitory activity toward histone deacetylase (IC(50)=0.51 mM) and potent cytotoxicity toward human leukemia K562 (IC(50)=68 microM) and prostate cancer LNCaP cells (IC(50)=193 microM). Millet containing linoleic acid might have anti-tumor activity.
