Rhodococcus erythropolis JCM 6824 is the producer of the quinoline antibiotic aurachin RE. This bacterium also degrades and utilizes some aromatic compounds, such as biphenyl and benzoate. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of this strain.

Sixty-one strains of alkane-oxidizing bacteria were tested for their ability to oxidize N-(2-hexylamino-4-phenylimidazol-1-yl)-acetamide to imidazol-2-yl amino acids applicable for pharmaceutical purposes. After growth with n-alkane, 15 strains formed different imidazol-2-yl amino acids identified by chemical structure analysis (mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry). High yields of ...

During atrazine degradation by Rhodococcus sp. strain N186/21, N-dealkylated metabolites and an hydroxyisopropyl derivative are produced. The cytochrome P-450 system that is involved in degradation of thiocarbamate herbicides by strain N186/21 (I. Nagy, G. Schoofs, F. Compernolle, P. Proost, J. Vanderleyden, and R. De Mot, J. Bacteriol. 177:676-687, 1995) is also required for atrazine degradati...

A nanolayer of composite and Rhodococcus erythropolis biocatalyst was studied for the first time for desulfurization of dibenzothiophene as a model sulfur compound and its performance was compared with that of composite and R. erythropolis alone. The nanolayer of composite was synthesized by sol-gel method from ferrous oxalate and zinc oxalate precursors coated on glass by spin coating techniqu...

To the Editor: Rhodococcus spp. infections occur predominantly in immunocompromised patients, and most infections are caused by Rhodococcus equi (1). Seven cases of R. erythropolis infections in humans have been described (2–8). None of these cases included a central nervous system infection (Table). We report a case of R. erythropolis meningoencephalitis in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis ...

Rhodococcus erythropolis NCIMB 13064 and Xanthobacter autotrophicus GJ10 are able to catalyze the conversion of halogenated hydrocarbons to their corresponding alcohols. These strains are attractive biocatalysts for gas phase remediation of polluted gaseous effluents because of their complementary specificity for short or medium and for mono-, di-, or trisubstituted halogenated hydrocarbons (C2...

Growth and cesium accumulation characteristics of two cesium-accumulating bacteria isolated from soils were investigated. Rhodococcus erythropolis CS98 and Rhodococcus sp. strain CS402 accumulated high levels of cesium (approximately 690 and 380 mumol/g [dry weight] of cells or 92 and 52 mg/g [dry weight] of cells, respectively) after 24 h of incubation in the presence of 0.5 mM cesium. The opt...

The comparative analysis of microbial communities of pure and oil – polluted soils of Ukraine conducted by us has shown the considerable predominance in the latter the representatives of Rhodococcus and Gordonia genera. Among them the most part of strains belonged to the species of Rhodococcus erythropolis and Gordonia rubripertincta. Rhodococcus fascians, Rhodococcus ruber and Dietzia maris sp...

rhodococcus fmf is a gram-positive bacterium isolated for the first time from soil samples of tabriz refinery in iran. this microorganism is able to catabolize dibenzothiophene to 2-hydroxybiphenyl and inorganic sulfur without the destruction of carbon-carbon bonds. three structural genes, dsza, dszb, and dszc have been characterized and shown to be responsible for this phenotype. in this work,...
