INTRODUCTION Schwannomas are tumors of neurogenic origin, that arise from Schwann cells which surround peripheral, cranial and autonomic nerves. Schwannomas account for only 5% of all benign soft tissue tumors, and 25-45% of extracranial schwannomas are present in the head and neck region. They are usually classified according to the nerve of origin and the site within the head and neck. CASE...

Dear Editor; With curiosity I read the original article by Jeong et al. [1]. They proposed to modify the classification of trigeminal schwannomas (TSs) according to their extension into the adjacent compartment, shape, and location of origin, and concluded that TSs could be removed safely and effectively according to their modified classification. The authors are to be congratulated for conduct...

schwannomas are benign neoplasms with unknown etiology, which apparently arise from neural sheath schwann cells. intraoral schwannomas are solitary, slow-growing lesions occurring at different ages; these lesions are normally asymptomatic and in some cases, they are accompanied by pain and paresthesia if spotted in the intraosseous regions of the mandibles. definitive diagnosis of schwannoma is...

Schwannomas arise from Schwann cells of the peripheral nerve sheath. The most common locations include the head, neck, and extensor surfaces of the extremities. Intramammary schwannomas are very rare and account for only 2.6% of schwannomas. A review of the English literature reveals 27 such cases of breast schwannoma. In this paper we describe another such rare case.

Cellular schwannoma is an uncommon variant of schwannomas that can occur in a peripheral nerve. Although cellular schwannomas typically do not differ in prognosis from regular schwannomas, they are known to cause local recurrence when not completely resected. Here, we report the case of a patient with cellular schwannoma of the posterior mediastinum, which recurred after 13 years.

Benign schwannomas arise in neural crest-derived Schwann cells. They can occur almost anywhere in the body, but their most common locations are the central nervous system, extremities, neck, mediastinum, and retroperitoneum. Schwannomas occurring in the biliary tract are extremely rare and mostly present with obstructive jaundice. We recently experienced a case of extrahepatic biliary schwannom...
