We introduce a new photoelectrode architecture consisting of concentric conducting and semiconducting nanotubes for use in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Atomic layer deposition is employed to grow indium tin oxide (ITO) within a porous template and subsequently coat the high area photoelectrode with amorphous TiO 2. Compared with control devices lacking a current collector within the pore...

Optically active stannolanes and trigonal bipyramidal pentacoordinated tin complexes were readily prepared by radical cyclization of N-propargylated chiral aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts induced by Bu(3)SnH. A translocated radical through the cyclization attacked the Bu(3)Sn group in an S(H)2 manner.

We investigate the interaction of visible light with the solid matters of semiconducting oxide nanorods (NRs) of zinc oxide (ZnO), indium tin oxide (ITO), and zinc tin oxide (ZTO) at the single nanomaterial level. We subsequently identify an intriguing, material-dependent phenomenon of optical rotation in the electric field oscillation direction of the scattered light by systematically controll...

Work reported in recent years from this laboratory has outlined the general features of poisoning in animals given diand trialkyl tin salts (Stoner, Barnes, and Duff, 1955). More detailed accounts of the cerebral oedema produced by triethyl tin in rats (Magee, Stoner, and Barnes, 1957) and the bile duct and liver lesions produced by dibutyl tin salts in rats and mice have also been prepared (Ma...

Ultralong beltlike (or ribbonlike) nanostructures (so-called nanobelts) were successfully synthesized for semiconducting oxides of zinc, tin, indium, cadmium, and gallium by simply evaporating the desired commercial metal oxide powders at high temperatures. The as-synthesized oxide nanobelts are pure, structurally uniform, and single crystalline, and most of them are free from defects and dislo...

Alkyl compounds of tin chlorides are widely used for the production of plastics in the chemical industry. They inhibit the dissociation of hydrochloric acid from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and in combination with PVC they are not toxic. However, as free molecules, organic tin compounds are highly toxic in contrast to inorganic tin compounds. The toxic components are dimethyltin chloride and trime...

All-electron Hartree–Fock and density functional calculations are performed to study the high-pressure phase transitions in gallium nitride and silicon within the framework of the linear combination of atomic orbitals using the Gaussian basis sets. Under high pressure, GaN makes a transition from the wurtzite (semiconducting) to the rock-salt (semiconducting) phase, whereas Si makes a transitio...

Group-IVa elements silicon and germanium are known for their semiconducting properties at room temperature, which are technologically critical. Metallicity and superconductivity are found at higher pressures only, Ge β-tin (tI4) being the first high-pressure metallic phase in the phase diagram. However, recent experiments suggest that metallicity in germanium is compatible with room conditions,...
