The title compound, C(19)H(24)O(6), is a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from the Kenyan plant Warburgia ugandensis. Ring A adopts a chair conformation, ring B is in a C(2) twist conformation and the lactone ring is nearly planar with maximum deviation 0.007 (1) Å. The reported absolute configuration is based on that of the similar compound bromo-parasiticolide A and is supported by analysis of ...
Two new guaiane sesquiterpene lactones ( 1 and 2) and seven new amino acid-sesquiterpene lactone conjugates ( 3- 9), together with six known sesquiterpene lactones ( 10- 15), were isolated from the methanol extract of the aerial parts of Saussurea pulchella. Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical methods to be 8alpha- O-(3'-hydroxy-3'-methylbutyryl)desacylcy...
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Stereochemical variation is widely known to influence the bioactivity of compounds in the context of pharmacology and pesticide science, but our understanding of its importance in mediating plant-herbivore interactions is limited, particularly in field settings. Similarly, sesquiterpene lactones are a broadly distributed class of putative defensive compounds, but little is k...
Four new (1-4), along with six known (5-10) dihydro-β-agarofuran sesquiterpene polyesters were isolated from the whole plants of Parnassia wightiana. The new compounds were structurally elucidated through spectroscopic analysis including UV (Ultraviolet Spectrum), IR (Infrared Spectrum), ¹H-NMR (¹Hydrogen-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), ¹³C-NMR (¹³Carbon-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), DEPT (Distorti...
Compounds that inhibit aromatase activity are used for the treatment of breast cancer. A group of sesquiterpene lactones inhibit aromatase activity and also exert cytotoxicity through their reactive alpha-methylene-gamma-lactone group. To synthesize sesquiterpene lactones with greater specificity for aromatase inhibition and lower cytotoxicity, we chemically reduced the alpha-methylene-gamma-la...
A transformed root culture of Cichorium intybus L. (Asteraceae) was found to produce sesquiterpene lactones of guaiane and germacrane type. Lactucopicrin, 8-desoxylactucin and three sesquiterpene lactone glycosides: crepidiaside B, sonchuside A and ixerisoside D were isolated from the roots. The yield of 8-desoxylactucin reached 0.03 g l(-1) at the early stationary phase of the culture.
