BACKGROUND The use of CAM by pregnant women is very popular in developed countries. The trend is increasing globally and lack of evidence of safety particularly when used during pregnancy may lead to complications. Pregnancy is a vulnerable period especially during the first trimester. There is scarcity of empirical evidence on CAM use particularly among women in Udi LGA of Enugu State and Sout...

We present the LGA (Local-Global Alignment) method, designed to facilitate the comparison of protein structures or fragments of protein structures in sequence dependent and sequence independent modes. The LGA structure alignment program is available as an online service at http://PredictionCenter.llnl.gov/local/lga. Data generated by LGA can be successfully used in a scoring function to rank th...

We evaluated the growth patterns of infants born large-for-gestational-age (LGA) from birth to age 1 year compared to those born appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA). In addition, we investigated possible epigenetic changes associated with being born LGA. Seventy-one newborns were classified by birth weight as AGA (10(th)-90(th) percentile; n = 42) or LGA (>90(th) percentile; n = 29). Post-nat...

OBJECTIVE To describe the magnitude of change in the proportion of term and postterm (37 completed weeks or more) large for gestational age (LGA) infants between 1992-2001 in Sweden and to examine whether time trends in prevalence of LGA births can be explained by changes in maternal risk factors. METHODS Using the population-based Swedish Birth Register, we analyzed data from 1992 through 20...

OBJECTIVE To determine whether a customized standard for large for gestational age (LGA) identifies undiagnosed women at risk of operative delivery and shoulder dystocia. METHODS We previously generated customized standards from our institution. We compared the baseline maternal characteristics and neonatal outcomes between LGA and non-LGA births, which were classified by both population-base...

The lattice gas automaton (LGA) for di usive-convective transport dynamics is constructed in terms of LGA building elements: propagation and mixing [1, 13]. The LGA transport dynamics is described by microdynamical equations and discrete Boltzmann equations, from which the corresponding macroscopic PDE's are derived [1, 13].

Thirty one term large for gestational age (LGA) infants of non-diabetic mothers were compared with 30 appropriate for gestational age controls. Median absolute nucleated red blood cell counts, lymphocyte counts, and packed cell volumes were significantly higher in the LGA infants than the controls. It is possible that LGA babies of non-diabetic mothers are exposed to relative intrauterine hypoxia.

OBJECTIVE High birth weight is a risk factor for neonatal complications. It is not known if the risk differs with body proportionality. The primary aim of this study was to determine the risk of adverse pregnancy outcome in relation to body proportionality in large-for-gestational-age (LGA) infants stratified by maternal gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Populat...
