Anodes of 304 stainless steel have been processed by a continuous wave Yb fiber laser with a wavelength of 1.064 lm and subjected to 50 keV electron bombardment in order to determine the extent to which hydrogen outgassing is reduced by the laser surface melting treatment. The results show a reduction in outgassing, by approximately a factor of four compared to that from untreated stainless ste...
The microleakage through margins of stainless steel crowns cemented with polycarboxylate, zinc phosphate, or glass ionomer cement was evaluated by measuring the amount of 4SCa leakage through the crown margins through 56 days after cementation in an in vitro environment. There was no cement-specific difference in marginal leakage as measured by this technique. The amount of leakage for each cem...
AIM The aim of this study was to compare the effects of preparation with conventional stainless steel Flexofiles and Gates Glidden burs versus nickel-titanium GT rotary files in the shaping of mesial root canals of extracted mandibular molars. METHODOLOGY A total of 54 canals from 27 mesial roots of mandibular molar teeth were prepared using one of two methods by novice dental students. One c...
PURPOSE This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of full-coverage all-ceramic zirconia, lithium disilicate glass-ceramic, leucite glass-ceramic, or stainless steel crowns on antagonistic primary tooth wear. MATERIALS AND METHODS There were four study groups: the stainless steel (Steel) group, the leucite glass-ceramic (Leucite) group, the lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (Lithium) gro...
The chairside-fabricated distal shoe appliance, with a stainless steel crown as the retainer, is an efficacious and cost-effective appliance for guiding the unerupted permanent first molar into position after premature loss or extraction of the second primary molar. The fabrication technique is illustrated in this case report and data is presented on the success rate of the appliance.
Extensive caries resulting in the need for a stainless steel crown in primary teeth may now be prepared with the use of the WaterlaseTM YSGG Laser, (Biolase) hard and soft-tissue laser. The use of the laser eliminates the need for local anesthesia, thereby providing optimal patient comfort and compliance.
Objective. The purpose of this study was to analyze the absorption of metal ions released from stainless steel crowns by root surface of primary molars. Study Design. Laboratory research: The study included 34 primary molars, exfoliated or extracted during routine dental treatment. 17 molars were covered with stainless-steel crowns for more than two years and compared to 17 intact primary molar...
Abstract Background and aim: Using Stainless Steel Crowns (SSC) for Early Childhood Caries usually causes an unpleasant condition in the aesthetic of the patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments and bonding systems on shear bond strength of composite veneer to Stainless Steel Crown. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 120 SSC were ...
PURPOSE This study evaluated the clinical success and parental acceptance of anterior primary dentition caries treatment with prefabricated resin-faced stainless steel crowns. METHODS A retrospective analysis of maxillary anterior primary dentition caries treatment using Whiter Biter II Crowns was performed. Each crown was evaluated for retention, fracture, interface failure, color match, mar...
AIMS To assess and compare the retentive strength of two dual-polymerized self-adhesive resin cements (RelyX U200, 3M ESPE & SmartCem2, Dentsply Caulk) and a resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC; RelyX Luting 2, 3M ESPE) on stainless steel crown (SSC). MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty extracted teeth were mounted on cold cured acrylic resin blocks exposing the crown till the cemento-enamel ...
