The first organocatalyzed sulfoxidation reaction towards enantioenriched (R)-modafinil (Armodafinil®), a drug against narcolepsy, is reported here. A series of chiral organocatalysts, e.g., different chiral BINOL-phosphates, or a fructose-derived N-substituted oxazolidinone ketone (Shi catalyst) were applied for the sulfoxidation reaction with environmentally friendly H2O2 as a convenient oxyge...

We demonstrate that incorporation of MnSalen into a protein scaffold enhances the chemoselectivity in sulfoxidation of thioanisole and find that both the polarity and hydrogen bonding of the protein scaffold play an important role in tuning the chemoselectivity.

A chiral pseudo-C(3)-symmetric titanium triflate that employs the point chirality of a single stereogenic centre to control the propeller chirality of its aryl rings has been used to catalyse an asymmetric sulfoxidation reaction.

Cysteine dioxygenases (Cdos), which catalyze the sulfoxidation of cysteine to cysteine sulfinic acid (CSA), have been extensively studied in eukaryotes because of their roles in several diseases. In contrast, only a few prokaryotic enzymes of this type have been investigated. In Ralstonia eutropha H16, two Cdo homologues (CdoA and CdoB) have been identified previously. In vivo studies showed th...

Selective sulfoxidation of BEDT-TTF (bis(ethylenedithio)-tetrathiafulvalene) with enantiopure (camphoryl-sulfonyl)oxaziridine derivatives provided the inner monosulfoxide, as demonstrated using single crystal X-ray analysis, with an enantiomeric excess of 44% (up to 74% after recrystallization).

A chiral Mn(salen) complex exhibiting two lactam binding sites at two rigid 1,5,7-trimethyl-3-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-2-one skeletons is capable of enantioselective sulfoxidation due to spatially remote substrate hydrogen bonding.

BACKGROUND The conversion of the cellular prion protein (PrP(C)) into the infectious form (PrP(Sc)) is the key event in prion induced neurodegenerations. This process is believed to involve a multi-step conformational transition from an alpha-helical (PrP(C)) form to a beta-sheet-rich (PrP(Sc)) state. In addition to the conformational difference, PrP(Sc) exhibits as covalent signature the sulfo...

Vanadium haloperoxidases catalyse the oxidation of halides leading to halogenation of substrates or, in the absence of suitable substrates, to oxidation of hydrogen peroxide into singlet oxygen and water. Furthermore, V-haloperoxidases are capable to give enantioselective sulfoxidation under the appropriate conditions. The most interesting model compounds that have been synthesised and studied ...
