The ambient air quality standard established in 1973 is 0.03 ppm annual average for sulfur dioxide and 0.075 mg/m3 for particulates. It is now generally believed that the toxicity of sulfur oxides in ambient air is significantly influenced by the coincident presence of particulates. Inhalation of 1 ppm of sulfur dioxide for 2 hr may produce alterations in pulmonary ventilatory function, both in...

The widespread emissions of toxic gases from fossil fuel combustion represent major welfare risks. Here we report the improvement of the selective sulfur dioxide capture from flue gas emissions of isoreticular nickel pyrazolate metal organic frameworks through the sequential introduction of missing-linker defects and extra-framework barium cations. The results and feasibility of the defect pore...

Hawaiian plants exposed to volcanic sulfur dioxide showed interspecific differences in leaf injury that are related to sulfur dioxide-induced changes in stomatal condutance. Species with leaves that did not close stomata developed either chlorosis or necrosis, whereas leaves of Metrosideros collina closed stomata and showed no visual symptoms of sulfur dioxide stress.

Shedding new light on conventional batteries sometimes inspires a chemistry adoptable for rechargeable batteries. Recently, the primary lithium-sulfur dioxide battery, which offers a high energy density and long shelf-life, is successfully renewed as a promising rechargeable system exhibiting small polarization and good reversibility. Here, we demonstrate for the first time that reversible oper...

The mass spectrometric analysis of the impact of sulfur dioxide and dust emission on carbon and oxygen stable isotopic compositions of glucose hydrolysed from α-cellulose samples extracted from Scots pine growing in the vicinity of "Huta Katowice" steelworks was the main aim of this study. The annual rings covered the time span from 1975 to 2012 AD. The relationships between climatic conditions...

the present research analyzes air quality in ahvaz, a city in the south of iran, paying special attention to sulfur dioxide (so2). in order to prepare the average data in the city, measurements have been carried out between 2009 and 2010 in two different locations. relations between sulfur dioxide and some meteorological parameters have been calculated statistically, using the daily average dat...

The ubiquity of sulfur dioxide as an air pollutant combined with reports of effects of the gas and its blood metabolite on DNA and chromosomes, prompted a study of possible mutagen action on mammalian oocytes. Utilizing in vitro and in vivo systems, mouse, ewe, and cow oocytes were examined for cytologic evidence of structural or numerical damage in meiosis. Fragmentation with rearrangement see...

A commentary on Sulfur dioxide contributes to the cardiac and mitochondrial dysfunction in rats A commentary on Sulfur dioxide contributes to the cardiac and mitochondrial dysfunction in rats The article by Qin et al. showed that sulfur dioxide contributes in the impairment of cardiac and mitochondrial function in rat H9C2 transformed cardiomyoblasts (1). The authors investigated the effect of ...

in this study, kinetics and mechanism of the sulfur dioxide adsorption on the single-walled carbon nanotubes (cnt) are investigated. three single-walled carbon nanotubes, including the armchair (6,6), chiral (6,5) and zigzag (6,0) cnts were chosen as the models and the different orientations of so2 molecule relative to the cnt axis were considered. the b3lyp functional within the 6-31g(d) basis...
