Estuaries are well known for their potential in removing metal from fresh water to provide micro-nutrients to aquatic life. In the present investigation, we have tried to bring out the metal removal potential of estuaries during accidental spills. For this purpose artificial river water containing high concentration of Mn, Cu, Zn, Ni and Pb were mixed with sea water at different salinity regime...

The aim of this study was to determine and compare the concentration of copper (Cu) in liver and muscle of two fish species Squalius cephalus and Capoeta capoeta gracilis. The fish were caught in four sampling sites along Tajan River, Mazandaran Province, northern Iran. The concentration of Cu was determined using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. There were significant differences (P

Heavy metals tend to be adsorbed and accumulated in sediments as opposed to water or suspended solids. Sediments and biota bodis can act as a final sink for heavy metals in the aquatic environments. They accumulate through the food chain posing potential biological and ecological risks. Therefore, research on the heavy metal concentrations in aquatic ecosystems can help to protect human health ...

the tajan river is one of the most important rivers in the north of iran. it seems that in respect of its meander design and pattern, passing over the block's fault and deviations along its way, it's influenced with active neotectonically movements in the region. although being meander in rivers, in the level of a flood water field with very low gradient, isn't unexpected but exi...

the length-weight relationships, (lwrs) were calculated for 14 fish species belonging to five families (cyprinidae, cobitidae, nemacheilidae, salmonidae, and gobiidae) collected from the tajan river, north of iran. significant length-weight relationships with high correlation coefficients were found for all species.
