MoS2 is a two-dimensional material that is gaining prominence due to its unique electronic and chemical properties. Here, we demonstrate ligand conjugation of chemically exfoliated MoS2 using thiol chemistry. With this method, we modulate the ζ-potential and colloidal stability of MoS2 sheets through ligand designs, thus enabling its usage as a selective artificial protein receptor for β-galact...

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold were obtained by the direct absorption of a fully conjugated phenylenethienylene derivative () presenting robust silylethane-thiol protecting groups as anchoring agents. The thiol deprotection and SAM formation have been evidenced by quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and have been compared to the S...

The present study deals with the synthesis andfunctionalization of mesoporous silica nanoparticles as drug delivery platforms. SBA-15 nanorods with high surface area (1010 m2g-1) were functionalized by post grafting method using 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane (MPTS). The parent and thiol-functionalized SBA-15 nanorods were used as nanocarriers for an anticancer drug (gemcitabine). The charac...

Two-dimensional layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted great interest owing to their unique properties and a wide array of potential applications. However, due to their inert nature, pristine TMDs are very challenging to functionalize. We demonstrate a general route to functionalize exfoliated 2H-MoS2 with cysteine. Critically, MoS2 was found to be facilitating the oxida...

Bioconjugation based on crosslinking primary amines to carboxylic acid groups has found broad applications in protein modification, drug development, and nanomaterial functionalization. However, proteins, which are made up of amino acids, typically give nonselective bioconjugation when using primary amine-based crosslinking. In order to control protein orientation and activity after conjugation...

This review is devoted to relatively new and promising approach the synthesis of novel organic compounds polymer materials, based on “click chemistry” concept. Several types reactions” (cycloaddition, nucleophilic ring opening, non-aldol carbonyl chemistry, addition multiple carbon-carbon bonds) have been described, relevant examples provided. The “thiol-ene” reactions thiol unsaturated functio...

A vapor-phase process, involving the sublimation of an ice substrate/template and vapor deposition a maleimide-functionalized poly-p-xylylene, has been reported to synthesize advanced porous material, with readily clickable chemical interface properties, perform Michael-type addition maleimide functionality for conjugation thiol group. In contrast conventional poly-p-xylylenes on solid surface ...

Removal of various toxic species from aqueous streams is of great importance. Sorption is one of the important remediation procedures as it involves the use of cheap and easily available materials. Also the advantage of regeneration of the sorbent involves the possibility of using novel sorbents. Nanosorbents are very important as the removal is based on the surface phenomena and this is greatl...

A CNT-AuNP hybrid has been synthesized through the Michael addition reaction between thiol-functionalized single-wall CNT and small water-soluble Maleimide-AuNP. The resilience and stability of this hybrid nanosystem is ensured by a covalent bond linking the nanoparticle to the CNT and by the fact that the functionalization reaction involves the organic shell of the AuNP and not its metallic core.
