Although they are extremely effective in maintaining tracheal and subglottic patency, T-tubes themselves can result in airway obstruction from plugging. Many practitioners educate patients on placing a small (5.0) endotracheal tube (ETT) through the tracheal limb of the T-tube if they develop airway obstruction. Unfortunately, this can be a difficult task to complete during acute airway obstruc...

Tracheal stenosis of ventilator-dependent patient is generally managed via dilation and long trachesostomy tube. This study reports four ventilator patients with tracheal stenosis managed with Montgomery T tube via rigid bronchoscopy. The respiratory symptoms improved in all patients. The Montgomery T-tube is a valuable tracheal stent that provides a functional airway while supporting the tracheal mucosa. It is used in benign and malignant tracheal diseases and provides symptomatic relief to the majority of the patients. T-tubes are simple to insert and rarely cause serious complications. The use of T-tubes continues to gain popularity with the increasing incidence of benign...

We experienced difficulty in ventilating the lungs of a patient after tracheal intubation. After intubation, an insufficient amount of tidal volume (V(T)) was delivered to the patient and the fiberoptic bronchoscopic examination identified partial abutment of the endotracheal tube (ETT) orifice against the tracheal wall. After various attempts to correctly place the ETT, a double-lumen endotrac...

Key points † Optimizing tracheal sealing is of clinical interest: fluid leakage past the tube cuff plays an important role in the pathogenesis of VAP. † Tapered shaped tube cuff offering a sealing zone with reduced folds and channels is a new strategy to minimize fluid leakage past the tracheal tube cuff. † Tracheal tube cuffs made from PVC show much more and faster fluid leakage than cuffs mad...

● Tracheal tube—commonly called an endotracheal tube. Note that a tracheal tube may be incorrectly placed in the esophagus, so the term does not mean a correctly positioned tube in the trachea. Moreover, a tracheostomy tube is not the same as a tracheal tube as used in these guidelines, even though both tubes are placed in the trachea. The procedure of placing a tracheal tube is still called en...
