INTRODUCTION We report the results of treatment of posterior urethral rupture (PUR) by primary realignment with some modifications of the technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this prospective study, 25 patients (mean age, 33.5 years; range, 18 to 70 years) in whom PUR had been proved underwent primary urethral realignment. All patients were evaluated postoperatively for urinary incontinence, e...
PURPOSE To determine risk factors of postoperative urethral stricture (US) and vesical neck contracture (BNC) after transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) from perioperative parameters. MATERIALS AND METHODS 373 patients underwent TURP in a Chinese center for lower urinary tract symptoms suggestive of benign prostatic obstruction (LUTS/BPO), with their perioperative and follow-up clinical...
Penile fracture of the erect penis is an uncommon but emergent urological trauma. Potential outcomes include erectile dysfunction, penile curvature, and urethral injury. Treatment is emergent surgical repair. We present the case of a 42-year-old man with a penile fracture complicated by a urethral rupture and subsequent repair. A discussion of the key aspects of this condition is presented.
We report a case of fracture of the penis. Emergency operation revealed total rupture of the urethra. The ruptures of the tunica albuginea as well as the urethra were sutured, and convalescence was uneventful. A slight urethral stricture without practical significance was demonstrated during followup. In cases of fracture of the penis with suspected urethral damage we advise urethrography follo...
Bladder rupture in patients undergoing renal transplant is rare. A 26-year-old man underwent a deceased-donor renal transplant. Postoperatively, he showed a good clinical course, but after removal of the urethral catheter, he complained of pain in the lower aspect of the abdomen and in the left flank. Findings of abdominal computed tomography and retrograde cystography revealed an extraperitone...
Radiography is a familiar and available imaging modality for the evaluation of patients with acute abdominal distress. Potential causes for acute abdominal distress include the hepatobiliary system, spleen, urogenital tract, and gastrointestinal tract. Radiographic signs associated with specific conditions are described, including gastric-dilation volvulus, urinary bladder rupture, ureteral rup...
An extremely rare case of spontaneous intraperitoneal rupture of the urinary bladder, caused by a combination of a tumor of the vesical wall and an impacted urethral stone, is reported. The patient's symptoms suggested a perforated hollow viscus. Under general anesthesia the urethral stone was removed, while at laparotomy a diffuse peritonitis with blood-stained purulent fluid emerging from the...
Bladder rupture is rare during infancy and most of reported cases had urethral obstruction or neurogenic bladder. We report two cases of infantile bladder rupture during voiding cystourethrography (VCUG). This report reinforces the criteria for proper VCUG imaging procedure. Consideration of expected bladder volume for body weight, and close monitoring of bladder pressure and injection speed co...
