Cephalosporin-resistant Escherichia coli has been increasingly reported worldwide. In this study, 32 cephalosporin resistant E. coli isolates identified from cancer patients in Cairo, Egypt in 2009-2010 were analyzed. Twenty-three were of phylogenetic group D, seven A and one each B1 and B2. By rep-PCR 15 phylogroup D isolates were grouped in four clusters, one with sequence type (ST) 405 and t...

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a zoonotic bacterial pathogen commonly found in human, birds and animals. The widespread use of broad-spectrum beta-lactams for poultry treatment, has resulted the production extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) E. coli. In this study, we analyzed antimicrobial resistance pattern isolates from broiler chickens ducks with clinical colibacillosis, investigated pres...

Here, we report the first autochthonous cases of infections caused by blaNDM-5 New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli strains recovered from urine and blood specimens of three patients from Algeria between January 2012 and February 2013. The three isolates belong to sequence type 2659 and they coexpress blaCTX-M-15 with the blaTEM-1 and blaaadA2 genes.

Only the plasmid from the human E. coli isolate differed in RFLP fingerprint pattern from the other blaCTX-M-2-carrying plasmids. Southern blot hybridization with a blaCTX-M-2 probe revealed a .10 kb EcoRI fragment in the plasmids from the porcine and broiler E. coli isolates and from the Salmonella Virchow CODA-1 isolate. Two EcoRI fragments of 6 and 10 kb were found in the plasmid from the hu...

Background and Objectives Macrolide, lincosamide and streptogramin B (MLS B) are noteworthy antibiotics for the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infections. The purpose of this study, was to determine the phenotypic and genotypic characterization of macrolide resistance, among S. aureus, isolated from clinical samples and nasal swabs. Materials and Methods Totally, 162 non-duplicate S. aure...

Streptococcus agalactiae causes severe invasive disease in humans and mastitis in cattle. Temporally matched bovine milk isolates and clinical human invasive isolates (52 each) collected in New York State over 18 months were characterized by molecular subtyping and phenotypic methods to probe the interspecies transmission potential of this species. EcoRI ribotyping differentiated 17 ribotypes, ...

BACKGROUND Excessive consumption of antimicrobial materials in hospitals is considered as the main encoder leading to the emergence, development and acquisition of new bacterial resistance to beta-lactamase. OBJECTIVES Owing to the lack of proper information regarding the mechanism of the bacterial resistance to antibiotics and responsible genes in the country, the current study aimed to cons...

OBJECTIVES We characterized plasmids encoding CTX-M-14 β-lactamase originating from Escherichia coli isolates recovered from patients with uncomplicated cystitis or individuals with faecal colonization in Hong Kong from 2002 to 2004. METHODS Plasmids carrying CTX-M-14 were studied by conjugation, replicon typing, S1 nuclease-PFGE and plasmid PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP)...

The Iraqi currency notes circulating in Mosul city were evaluated for the occurrence of ESBLs and AmpC b-lactamaseproducing bacteria. Four hundred twenty-two Gram-positive negative bacterial isolates with different antimicrobial resistance profiles recovered from 250 samples collected during period April to July 2021, among which 150 (35.5%) multi-drug resistant (MDR). study found that 16.4% 14...
