Kloeckera apiculata, a vitamin B-6-dependent yeast, grows in the presence of 3-hydroxy-2,4,5-trihydroxymethylpyridine in vitamin B-6-free media. On a molar basis the growth-promoting activity of this compound is approximately one-tenth that of other forms of vitamin B-6. [G-3H]3-Hydroxy-2,4,5-trihydroxymethylpyridine is converted into radioactive vitamin B-6 compounds of the same specific radio...

(-)-alpha-Pinene (1), a major constituent of many aromatic plants was biotransformed by the plant pathogenic fungus, Botrytis cinerea to afford three new metabolites, characterized as 3beta-hydroxy-(-)-beta-pinene (10%) (3), 9-hydroxy-(-)-a-pinene (12%) (4), 4beta-hydroxy-(-)-alpha-pinene-6-one (16%) (5) by physical and spectroscopic methods. A known metabolite verbenone (2) was also obtained.

Pantoea ananatis is a bacterium associated with other microorganisms on Abutilon theophrasti Medik. roots. It converts 6-hydroxybenzoxazolin-2(3H)-one (BOA-6-OH), a hydroxylated derivative of the allelochemical benzoxazolin-2(3H)-one, into 6-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzo[d]oxazol-2(3H)-one. The compound was identified by NMR and mass spectrometric methods. In vitro synthesis succeeded with Pantoea prote...

loc-Hydroxy[6-3H]vitamin D, has been synthesized with a specific activity of 4 Ci/mmol, and its metabolism in rats has been studied. It is rapidly converted to ln,25-dihydroxy[6-3H]vitamin D, in uiuo. Following an intravenous or oral dose, a maximal concentration of loc,25-dihydroxy[6-3H]vitamin D, is found 2 and 4 hours, respectively, before the maximal intestinal calcium transport response is...

In the solvent system used in this laboratory (1) for the resolution of the urinary metabolites of the carcinogen N-2-fluorenylacetamide,’ the mobility of synthetic N-(6-hydroxy-2-fluorenyl)acetamide (2) on paper chromatograms was similar (RF 3.4 to 14.5)2 to that of N-(7-hydroxy-2-fluorenyl)acetamide (RF 3.4 to 15.4), a known and quantitatively important metabolite of 2FAA (cf. (3)). Prelimina...

The Chinese medicinal herb Sorbaria sorbifolia, native to Changbai Mountain, can induce apoptosis in HepG-2 cells. We studied the mechanism by which 5, 2', 4'-trihydroxy-6,7, 5'-trimethoxyflavone (TTF1) isolated from acetic ether extracts of Sorbaria sorbifolia induces apoptosis in HepG-2 cells. The results showed that TTF1 both inhibited cell growth and induced apoptosis. RT-PCR and Western bl...

6-Hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin pyrophosphokinase (HPPK) catalyzes the transfer of pyrophosphate from ATP to 6-hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin (HP), leading to the biosynthesis of folate cofactors. Like other enzymes in the folate pathway, HPPK is an ideal target for the development of antimicrobial agents because the enzyme is essential for microorganisms but is absent from human and animals...
